Stattons Hotel is not new but is built into an older building with an unpretentious exterior but when you step inside - WOW! Everyone associated with this hotel is dedicated to making your stay with them as great as possible. Us first-time visitors to England needed directions/advice and got it whenever we asked. Need a great restaurant - immediate suggestions for several different food types - and directions, too. Going to a football game? Helpful advice on how to get there and where to go. The morning staff should be used as a model for hotels everywhere on how to serve fabulous breakfasts and make guests feel right at home. They plan to open a restaurant to serve the 4 hotels in the Mercer group in Portsmouth - it will most likely be impossible to get into it once people find out how good the food is.
The young lady (Ellie) that greeted us on our (very weary) arrival was so pleasant and helpful that we forgot all about a VERY long day of travel from the US. And what a nice room - quiet, very clean, large bed and a very nice bathroom. The reviews of Stattons are right on the mark, this is an excellent hotel and one that I would recommend to anyone planning to stay 1 night or a week.
