“Beautiful hotel, fantastic service”

A beautiful boutique hotel, with excellent rooms. The service is fantastic with a really good team of staff who go out of their way to make you welcome and are very friendly.

Despite several hiccups - aquavision tv not working, no bbc channels, dinner delayed, we found the service to be efficient whilst making you feel very welcome. The room was beautiful, and continuously attended to when we left it - beds turned down - bath emptied etc. The whole house has a very intimate feel. The menu is limited, but this is to be expected in such a small hotel. I agree with a previous reviewer regarding the pre-ordering of the food; a little unusual ... however the food was good.

What stands out is the house and the attentiveness of the two ladies, Laura and Kelly. It is great to see such professionalism in young girls.

Not perfect, but very good.

Excellent weekend at the Clarence Hotel which is situation close to the sea front in a quiet area of Southsea. Parking is not great but they have a few private spaces if you arrive early enough.

We could not have wished for a team of more friendly staff or a more clean and well decorated Hotel.

Food wise remember that this is a small hotel so its not rosette standard but its hot and well presented.

You do have to pre order starter, main and dessert which is a bit of a pain and really not in line with modern day standards but allows the Chef to prepare well in advance - surely the guests should come first ?

Anyway that nag apart the are friendly, welcoming and it is clean and very well presented so well recommended by us apart from the one nag about food ordering.

We'd been looking for a quiet getaway for the weekend and booked this hotel after reading some very good reviews. We were very pleased with the service they provided. We were made to feel welcome and at home from the moment we arrived - complimentary drinks on arrival, no rush to go to our room and very friendly staff. This excellent service continued for the whole weekend. We especially enjoyed the late breakfasts and dinner in the restaurant on the Saturday night was exceptional. An excellent wine list and beautifully cooked food was just what we needed to help us unwind! With the added bonus of it being a small hotel, with no children, it was the perfect place for us to stay. We're looking forward to being able to go back there again!

Arrived early but this wasn't a problem, given complimentary drinks until room was ready.
Taken to our room which was absolutely beautiful, with a king size bed, 32" wall mounted tv, our en-suite was a massive wet room with a power shower. The decor was very unique with blue wallpaper covered in blue monkeys, not to everyones' taste I would suspect but we loved it. There being only 8 rooms in the hotel every one is kitted out differently, i.e. sunken baths, whirlpool baths, aqua vision tvs etc.
We had dinner in the hotel on the Saturday night and I can honestly say the three courses we chose were delicious, and the same can be said with the breakfast the following morning with ample choice . The staff, which included the owner were all very sociable and nothing was too much trouble. We do intend to return in the near future.I would have no hestitation to recommend this hotel to friends, family and colleagues.

My partner and I went to this hotel in early March, it was recommended to us by friends. We stayed for one night (on a Saturday).
From the moment we arrived (even down to parking the car!), we felt that the service could not be faulted. The owners were away, and the staff in their place were lovely and extremely welcoming.
We enoyed a complimentary glass of wine as we checked in, and were in no way rushed off to our room. After a leisurely chat with our host, we were shown our room, and our bags were already in there.
We were in the room with the jacuzzi spa bath, that is a little more expensive, but well worth the money! The room was absolutlely spotless, and very tastefully decorated. We had champagne ordered to our room and nibbles, the room service was extremely quick. The in house films were very up to date, and it was great to watch whilst enjoying the spa bath (there is a tv in the bathroom).
We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious! We would highly recommend other potential guests using the restaurant, as the wine choice is very good too. The service was second to none, and we had the restaurant to ourselves which was lovely!
Breakfast was lovely , and is served til quite late, (11am I think!), which was a real treat.
We really could not find any fault with this hotel, and we got the chance to look in nearly all the rooms before we left, as we were practically the last to check out! All the rooms we saw were just as lovely, but the jacuzzi spa bath added that special touch!
We would highly recommend this hotel and the restaurant, we will go again!
