“What a great nights sleep and excellent value for money”
Reviewed 22 March 2013

I travel regulary for work reasons and am allowed to book rooms upto a value of £125 per night. Needless to say when booking a hotel i always look to spend as close as i can to the higher limit because it makes sense that the more money spent, the better the hotel and the better the hotel the better the nights sleep and comfort. This is correct right?? Well that is how i have always felt, but not any more.

I booked into the Premier Inn after a recommendation and also because it was about a 30 drive from where i had to work the following morning.
The cost of the room was £67.

I have stayed in Travelodge hotels before (when paying from my own pocket :) ) and have never been too impressed. So en route to this hotel i was expecting nothing more than another Travelodge type hotel.

I must admit i was impressed with everything from arrival to departure. I rate rooms not on the things like size of the flat screen TV or if they give free soap, but i have 4-5 points that either make or break a night.

Bed 5 out of 5.
Obviously when travelling alone on business a good nights sleep is the most important thing to get from a room. This hotel not only had a comfy bed, which should come as standard, but they offered a choice of firmer pillows!! I have not had such good pillows before. I have had many many nights sleep ruined by poor ultra soft pillows. With soft pillows sleep is not a problem but regular waking causes a rubbish nights sleep. With these pilows i had probably the best nights sleep in a hotel for years!

Quiet 5 out of 5.
The chain has a Ssshhh campaign running where they guarantee a night hotel. I thought i'd get some noise, especially as this was a Friday night, but i heard nothing. The room was well soundproofed and there was no noise in the corridors. It was almost like i was the only guest, which i know for a fact i wasn't as the hotel was veery busy when passing through the reception area.

Shower 4 out of 5.
A nice hot powerful shower is a must to be ready for a busy day or business. This shower was very good. Feel a bit mean for not giving 5/5 but i can't give top marks in every dept, so although i have given 4/5 it was still a great shower!

Breakfast 5 out of 5.
After a decent shower all that is needed to set you up for the day is a good hearty breakfast. The restaurant attached to the hotel served an excellent breakfast.
All was self service, along with Costa coffee! And the cooked items were all fresh and didn't seem that they were sitting there for hours.
I did have to pay extra for the breakfast (£8.25) but the quality and the fact you could eat as much as you wanted didn't make this an expensive option.

Location 4 out of 5.
For me this was an ideal location as my working the following day was within sight and just a 30 second drive. However it is not in the centre of the town (High Street) but is good and easy to find after driving from London.

I also had to pay extra for the wi-fi (£3). It was cheap and i had no problems with it, but would be good to be free as i do hate booking rooms and then finding extra costs associated. Even if the hotel added £1.50 per room and made the wi-fi free, i'm sure they'd not lose out.

I would definatley recommend this hotel, and other Premier Inn Hotels if this was anything to go by. I will look for them now when booking UK based rooms for business, or personal use, come to that.

Confused on arrival as there are 2 Premier Inns on same location, we were in older of two. Predictable Premier Inn with good clean rooms, Free parking with provided ticket for duration of stay and very near to Large Tesco store etc. Rang ahead as I find the beds on the firm side and asked for a duvet under bottom sheet which had been done, many thanks. However, we arrvived on a very cold day and when we came back at approx 10 pm found the heating had not been switched on and had to get friendly man up to sort out. Also, the windows in the room have large vents built in and due to the wind blowing onto our side of the building, caused a lot of noise from road etc plus freezing cold air into room which I had to block with toilet paper!!!! There is no way to close them off after asking staff in morning. Not as big as TV in Fareham site but ok. Need to find out if there are any aides to get in and out of bath after shower as no handles or rail to grab hold of so point to check next time.

This is a very convenient hotel to stay in if you are cruising from Portsmouth, and a great deal as they provide free parking for your car while you are away! An average taxi ride appears to be between £7 and £11 to the Port.

The hotel is easy to find once you realise there are two Premier Inns virtually side by side. Obviously on the law of averages we tried to check into the wrong one. Port Solent East is the one next to the Beefeater Restaurant and Pub, and is the smaller of the two. The setting is somewhat industrial estatelike, but the Tesco within 5/10 mins walk was really handy for last minute bits on the morning of our cruise. Seems to shut relatively early on a Sunday though, so you are reduced to the naughty nibbles machine in reception. There is also a Pizza Hut within walking distance.

The room was of typical Premier Inn standard, and the lovely receptionist happily provided us with more pillows, and gave us a room on the ground floor so we did not have to lug three cases up the stairs. She also kindly offered to go and get us sandwiches from the Beefeater, if we didn't fancy going over there ourselves.

We decided to have an early night, and that was where we had a problem. The heating during the night decided to go off, no matter what we tried to do with it, and I think a small herd of elephants must have had the rooms above us as it was very noisy for about three to four hours. So overall, our sleep was very disturbed due to both of these issues.

When the same lovely receptionist asked us how we had slept this morning, she was really upset to hear we had had a bad night, and immediately invoked the good night guarantee, refunding our money. Great service, but we felt a little embarrassed as this meant our free parking while we were away had become even cheaper, although she insisted.

Breakfast at The Beefeater was excellent as it usually is, and service was quick too. Wi-fi also worked really well, and is a bargain at £3 for 24 hours.

So although we had sleep issues here, the service we were offered was so excellent, I feel a 4 star rating is a must.

Room Tip: avoid room 5 in case the heating misfires.

We stayed here the night before a cruise we paid £29 for an advance non refundable booking and left our car for 17 nights what a bargain. The staff were excellent the pub next door handy as we arrived late and went there for dinner, basic pub grub but nice, a £6 taxi ride to the port so much better than £10.95 a day to park there.
Room was quiet, clean and had everything we required. Notices on all doors remaining guests to be quiet at night.

Stayed for two nights with my Gilfriend. The exact location was not the best, reminded me a little bit of an industrial estate but good as it was close to many attractions. The rooms were very clean and they lived up to their word of a great night sleep. Cheap chearful weekend away.
