Stayed here in November for the Xmas markets. Was really lovely bed and breakfast in easy walking distance (5 min) to shopping centre and quay. Spent one night here in November. We was out until late in a restuarant in the quayside shopping area. When we returned we went straight up to the room to find no heating on, however there was an electic plug in heater to use! We used it and we were fine. If I had one quibble it would be the mattress. It seemed in desperate need of replacement as springs were digging in us! Having said that for 70 pound per night we would certainly stay again, especially when you consider a premier inn around the corner was twice the price. I would rather stay here where you can have a chat and drink in the pub downstairs. The breakfast was lovely as well and very filling!

If you want good service helpfull staff this is the place to be nothing is to much bother. The friendleness of everybody was really good and even the locals where happy to talk to you. Could not fault the food and for the price they charge you cannot go wrong with staying there any time you want a hotel in Portsmouth.

Paul & Nikki of the George Hotel in Queen Street Portsmouth have certainly got it right in the short time they have been in the Pub. You are always welcomed with a friendly smile and they can't do enough to help you.The rooms are very clean and well decorated, and for the price you are getting a lot for your money. The Restaurant is very quircky and the food exceptional, especially Nikkis sunday roast.....a must try even if you are not staying at the Hotel.
A* is what I score this traditional Hotel/Pub.
P.S Make sure you look down the well !!

Nikki & Paul are wonderful hosts. They run a warm, friendly exceptionally clean and nicely furnished hotel.that is child friendly too. They have all the little touches of a 5* Hotel and there are lots of sachets of tea and coffee not just one or two!! We have stayed in many 5* Hotels that haven't been as good believe me. The home cooked food was absolutely delicious - one thing for sure you don't need to look any further for your meals that are very reasonably priced. The location of the 'The George Hotel' is to die for as it's literally minutes walk away from the ferry, train and bus station - no need for expensive taxi's. You are almost opposite the historical dockyard and a five minute walk to the Gunwarfe Quay shopping centre and the John Pound Centre. Although they have no on site parking it's not an issue. We parked directly opposite in the historical dockyard secure carpark which cost us £10 for two full days and nights - a bargain!

So if you're visiting Portsmouth you really don't need to look any further than 'The George Hotel.' We will definatly be back to Portsmouth just for 'The George Hotel'. and to see the wonderful hosts again!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 7 that was plenty big enough for two, had a good shower and although on the roadside the noise was not a problem and we are used to living in a quiet village!

When I read all the excellent reviews about The George on TripAdvisor, I wondered if they could be true - but The George really is that good! Nikki and Paul have worked incredibly hard to make this sweet little hotel a genuinely lovely place to stay.
My husband and I wanted somewhere near the dockyard and waterfront to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary and seeing The George on TripAdvisor we were surprised that we hadn't seen it before - but Nikki and Paul have only been there for about 18 months and have transformed it from a wreck to a comfortable and very convenient hotel with a good restaurant - they really deserve the positive reviews. We'll definitely go back there!
