“Comfortable”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2013

The check in process was very smooth and professionally done by very polite staff.
The room was very clean and the bed is THE BEST hotel bed we have ever slept in.
At breakfast there was a varied choice of food and drinks, in a buffet format to help yourself. All for £7:99 per person which is very very reasonable.
Having stayed at Travellodge Portsmouth and Premier Inn we would, in future endeavour to book at Ibis again. Also it was a few pounds cheaper than the rest, having booked about 3 weeks in advance
One very little "gripe" would be the fact that Ibis say that rooms are soundproofed......but you can still experience noise from people walking up and down the corridoor.

My daughter and I stayed here for a university open day. This hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the train station and they offer a left luggage facility. There is a Sainsbury's local and a Wetherspoons nearby. It is about a 10 minute walk from Gunwharf Quays. The room was small but perfectly adequate with tv, tea/coffee etc. We had a room that looked out onto the main road but there was no noise. There was some internal noise such as doors banging so if you want a lie-in take some earplugs! Overall this was a good budget choice and I would stay again.

As a travelling rep i fully understand the concept of "you get what you pay for" hence i'm reasonably sanguine about hotels
In reality i look for 3 things
1, Easy Check In
2, Clean room ,preferably warm, with a both if possible
3, somewhere comfortable to relax, have dinner and a drink
I got none of the above!!
Check in was difficult as English definitely not the first language of staff, further exacerbated by checking in with Colleagues under a single booking reference(but settling individually) seemed a concept alien to this hotel
Room was cold on arrival and the electric heater had little effect(possibly because the thermostat had been dis-armed?)and one Colleague had to request blankets as his heater was not functioning at all
Showering was something of a problem as the shower cubicle(s) are tucked into a corner which is not square(Hotel seemed to be designed around a maritime theme) and there is little room to move once you've managed to close doors
On a plus point the Bed itslef was comfortable!
Bar/restaraunt area was very spartan(think Airport waiting room) and having watched an untrained Barman waste several pints of Guiness i decided to seek other dining arrangements.
Breakfast was acceptable and seemed plentiful(buffet style) and i will not complain about this
In an effort to be fair, location is good, easy to find by car, parking is secure (but has to be paid for)
Wifi can had but at a cost of £9.99 for 24Hrs (immediately reduced to £5 upon discussion)but am increasingly frustrated at this practice
In short, if you must stay here it will suffice for 1,maybe 2,nights but i'm sure there are better options

Room Tip: Not sure this is an option, our party had 5 rooms and all seemed to suffer similar issues

Good location. Stayed here overnight prior to catching early ferry the next day. Room heater was not working and the weather was cold. However our room was changed promptly for another without any problems. We were anxious to use a secure car park as our car was fully loaded. Although the car park was nominally full the receptionist came out to the car park with us to find a space. Excellent service all round.

When to enter the hotel it looks very fresh and modern but as you go into the hotel corridors it's very dated and has a very unusual decor!
The Poppy pattern carpet and unusual lumpy walls got my attention! It reminded me of a crazy golf course!

The receptionist didnt speak a huge amount of English so asking for directions was a challenge.

The room was small but clean and the beds were so AMAZING I didn't want to get out of it.

The bathroom was very very tiny and reminded me of a caraven toilet.

We only stayed for one night but it was good for what we wanted :)

On one hand this hotel is clean and tidy with good amenities. However, arriving very late (3 a.m.) was hoping to use the 24 hour food/drink service that Ibis offer, only to be told that the bar was closed????? Maybe I was asking too much. Not the best location for walking to Portsmouths great sights. Evening food a bit bland and ordinary.

Staff at reception were very good and helpful on arrival.Rooms small and claustrophobic.Little room to move araound with two sharing!
Well located for Gun Wharf Quay shopping outlets. Parking a hassle with gated entrance and limited spaces, cost £6 per night! Breakfast on saturday morning was lukewarm but gave them the benefit of doubt, on Sunday even colder, when initially raised this with Restaurent staff, littl ereaction other than to offer to warm my plate of food in microwave! This was unacceptable therefore l requested fresh food be prepared, this was reluctantly agreed to but after 15 minutes when the only movement was for the baked beens to presumambly be reheated, no food arrived so at this time l complained to the duty manager! His reaction was to refund cost of breakfast and not to charge for parking, he apologised but said that food waas cooked to Ibis standards. Hotels seem to think that placing open dishes with what was originally hot food under heat lights will ensure quality is maintained! Without regular checks, good heating systems and particularly lids the breakfasts offered were clearly below par in line l have to say with other chains previously stayed at in the same town! Unlikey to stay there again!
