“AWFUL!! Do not go here!!”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

After paying £98 this was not what I expected. Not sure how they can advertise that they have a spa? One freezing cold pool and a small jacuzzi. Rude, unhelpful staff, you also have to pay for wifi which obviously the website doesn't state!!
Very disappointed, wasted £50 on taxi journeys to the centre of portsmouth. Awful location and no help when I stated to the manager I was unhappy with my stay. Don't waste your money!!

Our website and other websites state that our hotel is located a short distance form the main attractions in Portsmouth and that the WiFi is free in the lobby.
In the bedroom directory it states that this service is payable. On our website we offer various packages inclusive of breakfast, internet etc.

Could you please let me know who you spoke to at the hotel, so I can follow up for you.

Our first stop, right of the ferry from Le Havre ( France), we arrived really late, but found ourselves a perfect room with a truly comfy bed.
Breakfast is perfect, staff really helpful and professional.

After having a long journey to the hotel I was greeted by Lauren one of the hotel receptionist, she was polite and ever so helpful after a mix up with the booking through no fault of the Marriott. It was sorted out effectively and efficiently nothing was too much trouble. The room was a double room with kingsize beds with a good standard of decoration. The bathroom has a hairdryer in attached to the wall for handiness and there is also another one located in a drawer in bedroom which has more power. Dont open or use the fridge unless you want to use the items in the mini bar in as it is weighted, there is a note on the fridge door but you might not notice it. We have booked another stay for October but I have no doubt we will be there again soon. We plan to visit the area often and this is our hotel of choice. Why stay anywhere else when everything is at your doorstep. Remember to tell reception about if your car is park outside so it can be entered into the system. Great leisure facilities, swimming pool although it is on the small side not suitable for length swimming. All the staff were polite and nothing was too much trouble for them

Room Tip: We were near the lift on level 3 and had a brilliant nights sleep

Our weekend stay was interesting. Excellent hotel, efficient staff, brilliant breakfast, lovely bedroom, large and comfy beds, all the extra facilities in the room as you would expect (but what happened to bathrobes as previously supplied?).

And now for the 'but'. We found it a little off-putting to be greeted by the smell of a chlorine treated swimming pool the minute you step inside. It became obvious why this was when we went to breakfast the following morning. We left the lift at the ground floor to be met by a woman with her daughter who were just returning from the pool, still dripping wet and with towels around their shoulders. This looked rather out of place in a hotel of this standard. Worse was to come. At lunch time we were sitting in the cafe/bar/dining area waiting for our food when 4 girls dressed in bathrobes came along and sat down for their lunch, but then, oh dear, from the same pool area came a man dressed only in swimming shorts and flip flops who went to the bar for a coffee!! The sight of his bare torso was enough to put anyone off their food. As management were present we cannot understand why something wasn't said (or maybe it was but without effect).

Perhaps the Marriott's next project should be to build an annexe to accommodate the leisure facilities. We do use the gym and pool etc but would not be adverse to walking a few more yards to take advantage of them.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for staying at our hotel and for your great feedback. We pleased with all the comment and just wanted to let you know that we changed from a chloride to a salt and CO2 sanitation system to avoid this. This only has a 2% rest chloride residue. We do offer pamper days and sometimes customer do not like to eat at the side of the pool and we offer them bathrobes if they feel comfortable eating in the Lounge.
I will speak to the leisure team to make that everybody is dressed when moving from the club to the bedrooms and getting drinks at the bar. We should have spotted this.

Thank you for letting me know.

We had a wonderful room with a king size bed. The room was nice sized and very comfortable and clean. We only spent one night here but wished we could have spent more. The breakfast was very good with a lot of variety. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.

Been to Marriott Portsmouth many times and would advise that is by far the best hotel in Portsmouth. Park and Ride into Gunwharf (Shopping and restaurant heaven) is just £2 for up to 8 people. Port Solent with restaurants, cinema and shopping less then 5 mins away.

Nice restaurant and bar with high ceilings and modern furniture. Restaurant portions are big and very tasty. Lovely breakfast items, not cheap catering pack items served elsewhere.

Swimming Pool, gym and Sauna/Steam all lovely.

Room Tip: High Floors have excellent reviews.

Stayed Saturday overnight. We found the hotel excellent in all departments throughout our stay. We have not been to Portsmouth for many years and the reason for the visit was a trip to the Spinnaker Tower/Gunwharf Quays both excellent and the hotel an ideal base for a weekend break. We ate in the restaurant Saturday evening delicious food reasonably priced we were attended to by the lovely Caroline nothing was too much trouble she went that extra mile, lovely buffet breakfast on the Sunday morning.

Room Tip: We were allocated 625 clean/quiet
