Weve stayed in several Marriott's and this was a strange one. If your room is "inwardly facing" and on the 3rd floor or lower you will be most likely to be inside the roofline looking down at the bar and restaurant. We had booked a superior room and asked for it to be quietly located and were on the 4th floor above the roof but staring at the plant room ductwork which was humming away in the background. We asked to change and went to the 7th floor front which was a standard room but no offer of refund although we were given the "superior" benefits such as free parking and internet which you would otherwise have to pay for.
Breakfast wasn't great but the staff were all excellent.
For the downsides the hotel was conveniently located just north of Portsmouth and within a long walk / £5 taxi fare of Port Solent with its small marina and selection of restaurants and bars. The surrounding road junctions were however still within earshot even on the 7th!
The rooms were typically good although externally the building looked tired.
Would we return - maybe if we had to!
