Description: Casa De Castro is a lovely coffee shop and patisserie run by a Franco-Brazilian couple that has build its strong reputation on the quality of its homemade cakes and savouries. Beautiful garden, excellent coffee and jazzy music come together to make Casa De Castro a delightful place to have a pleasant and relaxing moment

Small cafe in Albert Road near the traffic lights. Just the most amazing cakes and pastries and savoury snacks - all home-made. Not cheap! (pan au raisin: £1.40). Coffee is well made and fresh. Small number of tables inside, and a couple more in the garden at the back where you can take your dog with you (if you can trust him not to nick any unprotected snacks...).

Staff are courteous, efficient, polite. Packaging is good - nice little boxes if you feel tempted to 'take something for later on' - like I did. It's very tempting to stop and have another cake and coffee!

This place deserves to be successful - I hope it stays for a long time.

None of the standard "freshly baked goods" here - these are not taken out a freezer and chucked into an oven, they are handcrafted on the premises from scratch.

A delightful couple own this tiny coffee shop, and what a wonderful place it is. From home made croissants with cheese, ham and tomato filling to French apple tart, fresh strawberry pavlova, coconut and lime cake, and a whole variety of sumptuous puddings and cakes I've never seen before!

Well worth the pound or two for each item, and fabulous quality. They keep it nice and simple, no great big menu to pick from, and only todays cakes are available. Good quality coffee served with a small fresh shortbread biscuit (in whatever todays shape is, mine was a teddy bear!) is inexpensive and considerably better than your standardised chain-store fare.

Sit inside at the few small tables or sit out in the sunshine in the large garden to the rear.

Miss out at your peril. This beats everywhere else hands down.

Open 6 months now I have been informed and the husband and wife team (he is French and she is Brazilian), bring a bit of baking magic to town. According to their website casadecastro.co.uk Brazilian chef Silvana De Castro, Bronze Medal 2010 of "Salon Culinaire" is the one doing all the cooking here. There is the most amazing variety of fresh cakes, sweets and savouries at reasonable prices. The website hosts the pictures of all the delights they produce. The only downside is the selection is not all available each day (for obvious reasons - lol)....but hey I'm happy to keep coming back. They have a garden area too which will be a nice welcome addition to the area as outside eating is a rare find these days in our built up city.
