Review of Portsdown Hill

As a local I drive regularly up to the top of the ill. There are several view points to park the car, sit and take in the view. O a good day you can see past Hayling Island, across to Gosport or even the Isle of Wight. Choice of burger vans, ice cream vans and a pub but I regularly take a snack and drink up there and read my papers

Portsdown Hill provides the most spectacular view over Portsmouth and beyound to one side and of the South Downs to the other side. We often go here as we are never underwhelmed by the views. There are a couple of excellent burger vans, with Micks' Burger Van in the main car park proving the most popular due to his mammoth sizes and being open 24 hours. Bikers love to ride out and meet here. It is popular with people all year round and there are plenty of picnic areas if the weather is sunny. Parking is Free!!!!!!! My only criticism is that there are not any public facilities.

We had a lovely afternoon. started with the views from Portsdown Hill as we drove to Fort Nelson. The Royal Armouries is very impressive - and free! the tunnels are brilliantly creepy and some of the guns (including the 'super gun') were scarily big! Finished off by getting an ice cream at the layby and watching the bikers! great stuff!

We went to Portsdown Hill on Sunday, had a picnic and a walk along the pathway. There was a lot of traffic and it was difficult to park but it was well worth it. There is a magnificient panorama over Portsmouth. It was a clear afternoon and it was nice to sit and enjoy the views of the busy city below.

Spent the afternoon here. Visited the Armouries, the Nelson column, as well as the hillside - to learn about the geology and experience the views across the city. Such a fascinating area and can't wait to return and do it all again - there just aren't enough hours in a day.
