Description: Welcome to The Dolphin, Portsmouth. We’re Portsmouth's oldest pub; traditional with some modern essentials, located right in the heart of the City. We offer free Wi-Fi, great food and a varied range of real ales and refreshing beers. The Dolphin is equipped with a fantastic beer garden to the back of our pub, perfect for those spring and summer evenings. Families with young children are welcome to dine with us until 8pm.

Despite it was very warm, we decided that the outdoor area was a bit cramp, so we ate inside. We had various dishes between us, starters and means, and everything was delicious : From homeless mussels to seafood risotto, from sausage and mash to tagliatelle. Good value for money, friendly staff, flexible in serving specials as starter etc. I definitely recommend this.

We first visited the Dolphin more than 20 years ago and although there have been plenty of changes and updates over the years it is still one of our favourite Portsmouth haunts. Yesterday's lunch to celebrate a family graduation was just what we wanted. Excellent, flexible service, great food from both the regular and specials list that met a range of tastes. As always the Fish Pie was a hit with those that had sampled it before and those who were swept along with a tide of enthusiasm. Thanks so much for helping make it a special day. We will be back!

Had a family Sunday lunch at the Dolphin and was not disappointed. We were surprised at the number of reviews which veer between one star and five starts; it's not exactly cordon bleu but neither is it terrible. There is the usual roast options on a Sunday lunchtime plus a more extensive menu featuring pub grub staples. Whilst not spectacular, the food was decent and very reasonably priced. Service was friendly and attentive.

We were staying literally around the corner from the Dolphin so made it our first night's destination. It was a Sunday and we were only just in time to order as meals stop at 8pm on Sundays - other nights much later. This made us a bit wary of what was going to be dished up, but I had a Sunday meal, roast chicken and my husband a fish pie. Both were freshly cooked and delicious. We then went there for the following 2 nights, on each occasion trying different things, all well cooked and generous portions.
The staff were very attentive, what more could you want after a full day of sightseeing and sore feet!!
Prices were very competitive too.
We will certainly go there again next time we visit Portsmouth.

This was absolutely appalling. Family went to the evening meal which was advertised and had entertainment. We were cramped in the seats. We could not see the entertainment. The meal lacked vegetables. The pudding was very very limited. All in all, it was a very overcrowded evening and we wished we had not gone.
