“Fantastic Stay, Unbeatable Service!”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

Me and my husband stayed with the Travelodge last sunday, before our cruise. We usually stay at the Holiday Inn or Ibis, but after the stay we had, we will now always use the Travelodge.

Our great stay started when we entered the hotel, the foyer smelt nice and was extremely clean. I guess the hotel has just been updated as last time we stayed it was looking a little tired. We made our way over to the desk and Jonnie and Emma were checking people in. Jonnie checked us in, he was dressed smart, and spoke to us like we were individuals, not just people filling a room. It was absolutely fantastic to meet a young man who was so polite and made us feel so at ease at the hotel. The check in process was smooth and simple, and Jonnie directed us up to our room.

Before we went up to the room, we asked where the best place to eat was, and Jonnie and Emma suggested a few places close to the hotel, its great that your staff have such great local knowledge. We decided, on recommendation from both Emma and Jonnie, that we were going to try Chinese Tea, which was absolutely gorgeous.

We went up to the room to drop off our bags and the room was just as nice as the foyer, it had recently been decorated and looked really tidy. The room smelt nice, which in some places, the room can smell a bit old and musty, but not here. The bed was really comfortable, and I had a really pleasant nights sleep!

Its really nice to come to a big chain hotel and because of the staff there, be made to feel special and that we were individuals that were valued! It really did feel like we were staying in a small B&B where the owners really had a good rapport with the guests!

We will always stay at the Travelodge now, after the fantastic service we received and how good of a nights sleep we had in the newly decorated rooms! Thanks Jonnie and Emma for making our trip here so comfortable!

Room Tip: Book early to get a discounted price although, its great value for money what ever the price!

We live on the Isle of Wight and enjoy going to concerts in Portsmouth. Now that Wightlink has cut its 23:15 Fastcat (foot passenger) sailing we are faced with the option of either leaving the concert early (which we have on more than one occasion) or returning on the midnight car ferry, which entails a long wait at the terminal, a long crossing and a very late return home - 01:30hrs.
Recently, we had booked concerts for two consecutive nights and decided to explore the option of staying overnight in Portsmouth. So we booked the Travelodge for a couple of nights.I'm SO glad we did!
We were greeted very warmly and nothing seemed too much trouble for the staff at reception. Recently refurbished, our room was very clean and comfortable. It overlooked the car park so was very quiet. The bed was king sized and there were two comfortable chairs, which was just as well because the day we had to kill in Portsmouth was wet and blustery so we spent most of it reading in our room.
There is no cooked breakfast option, which is a shame, and because we were rather put off the pub next door by other reviews, we went into town.
It seems the 700 bus which goes to the civic centre and to Gunwharf Quay is the nearest to the hotel but it only goes every half hour. There are other bus stops sightly further away which offer more options and a taxi costs less than £5.
So, I am very cross with Wightlink, but delighted with the Travelodge!

Travelodges are always consistent with a clean comfortable room and bed and a powerful shower. No frills, but no problems either. Rooms also very fresh and airy, provided with tea/coffee making facilities - nothing to complain about!

Had two days here with family , was much better than expected of Travelodge , beds were much better,no sofa bed, we had much better single beds for the kids that were made up for us rather than havering to do it ourself like you normally have to with Travelodge, whole place was clean and up together. Pub that adjourns the Travelodge that is a separate business do cheap meals and also has a kids play centre. Staff very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Will return.

Stayed for two nights, asked for room at the back and was really quiet. Blackout curtains made for a good nights sleep. A good half hours walk or £4 taxi gets you to gun ware and all the shops and bars. Recently refurbished and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Stayed 2 nights (Sept 12 and 13, 2013). I had requested a single and a twin. Our twin was a cot and a double bed! NOT WHAT we wanted! The rooms were very warm. The windows couldn't be opened enough to provide ventilation. What is going on????? When we asked for extra towels for the 2 people in the "TWIN", we were initially refused by a very rude manager. Customer service is not a strength of Travelodge. The rooms were clean and the double bed was comfortable.

TravelodgeUK, Dianne from Customer Care at Travelodge Portsmouth, responded to this review, 10 October 2013
Dear David D, we are sorry to learn that you were disappointed with your recent stay at Travelodge. Unfortunately this particular hotel does not provide two single beds in the twin room, we provide a king-sized bed and a sofa bed. It is regrettable you found your room to be too warm, in an attempt to make our customer’s stay more comfortable we do offer fans which are available from reception on first come first serve basis. Our windows have restricted opening for our customer’s safety. We do expect our staff to be polite and helpful and we will ensure that the hotel are made aware of the feedback that you have left so that staff can be reminded of the importance of proving a quality service to all guests.

we have stayed at this Travelodge before and was not that impressed, but after reading they have been refurbished, we decided to give them another try. our room was bright and clean, recently refurbished as promised it looked great. still have a little problem with a shallow bath but overall very good and considering the room price we paid a bargain. the new mattress was spot on for us and as it was so comfortable we ordered one from the makers when we got home. we will be more than happy to stay there again.
