I'm updating the review I originally posted (below the ====== line) to say that we were contacted by Travelodge, who offered many apologies for the inconvenience we had gone through, especially by sending us to one Ibis hotel when in fact they'd booked us in to another (and then being very difficult to contact again to sort it out) and by giving us the incorrect "4 days transfer" information when in fact they transferred us for one night only and then accepted us back for the remaining three. They contacted us to offer a full refund (which we accepted!) and that has now been paid into my card account.
Further, once we were back in to the Portsmouth Travelodge, it was its usual "good place to stay". It's a pity they don't have a Travelodge cooked breakfast cafe downstairs - as some do - but we invariably head off either to the Isambard Kingdom Brunel (a Wetherspoons house) for breakfast, or a Toby carvery not too far away, anyway. The bed was comfortable, the new-look room still looks great, and this Travelodge's showers are still to die for: what a blast :)
And now the previous, very disgruntled, review...
Title: “If/when they let us in, I'll write with more details !”
We arrived at 10.30pm, to find a waiting queue - a solitary gent and a mature married couple - ahead of us. We joined them in a group feeling of misery ... there was "a problem" with all our rooms.
Eventually other accomodation was found: all of us were provided with a map and directions to the Ibis Budget on Fratton Road, and off we drove ... 3 separate cars.
We all eventually arrived ... we clearly heard the words "Ibis Budget" and SatNav found it OK, but the others, though they too could see the Ibis, thought the Tarvelodge gent had transferred them to another Travelodge.
After some time ... and the offer of a free coffee for each of us (gratefully accepted :) ... the excellent Jake (?) at the Ibis Budget finally sorted out what had happened ... we had all been sent to the Budget, but Travelodge had actually booked us in (and transferred the money) to the Ibis Style, elsewhere in Portsmouth.
Jake provided us with a map / post code, and off we headed, where an excellent gentleman on reception quickly provided us with key cards ... finally, after an hour and a half since arriving at the Travelodge, we have a room in an Ibis.
WE, however, were told that our entire 4 nights in the Travelodge had been transferred to the Ibis Style ... the Ibis Style tell us "Oh no ... they've transferred you for only one night, and tomorrow you transfer back to the Travelodge for your remaining 3 nights."
Too fed up tonight (well ... 1 am) to sort this out now: I'll start phoning around tomorrow, while at the Portsmouth Guildhall 8am -> 11pm, volunteering for the first of 4 days of the southern finals of UK Rock Challenge (rockchallenge dot co dot uk)
Maybe post another review tomorrow evening :)
