Chose this hotel mainly for its location - within walking distance of Old Portsmouth, including Spice Island, Gunwharf Quays, Southsea and of course the sea (many rooms have excellent sea views). The hotel is not fancy or luxurious, but comfortable with good service. We didn't eat there apart from breakfast, or use the pool etc, so I can't comment on those.

As title states, only a two night stay in the hotel but none the less, a splendid overall stay.

It is a busy hotel during the middle of the week due to a high number of business clientele from out of town.
With that said it must be a reputable establishment, with low fees.
The price for our stay was a bit pricy due to us getting a superior room.
The price jumps far to high from standard to superior.

Restaurant closes slightly early for my personal liking but provides delightful food.
Breakfast is a highly recommended must have.
The bar was splendid with TV's playing sports and news however the bar maid during the night shift was to aged for their fast paced employment. Hopefully that has been attended to.

The hotel boasts an indoor pool which I personally didn't use but recommend.
Overall good stay with helpful staff and service.

Good quiet location new seafront, walking distance to town centre. Good breakfast, easy parking once day conference had left. But the first room I was given stank of smoke and was really shabby. This was sorted out quickly, but the new bathroom loo was full of lime scale and really grotty. Okay for one night, but other hotels in the city offer better value and standards.

Dear Seantig,

Thank you for taking the time to convey your comments regarding your recent experience with us. It is great to know that you found our location convenient and had you enjoyed our breakfast. I am sorry we were not able to exceed or at least be at par with your expectation with regards to the room accommodation you were given. This is definitely not up to our standards and we are constantly working on improving the quality of service provided.

If there is anything we can do to make your next stay more comfortable, please do not hesitate to ask the Manager on Duty.

Just back from a fabulous weekend break with my partner and child at Holiday Inn Portsmouth!
This hotel is just lovely and in a perfect location within minutes walk from the sea and gunwharf quays!
From the moment we arrived we got such a great first impression, my daughter was given a little kiddies pack and the cookies and milk on arrival and champagne for adults was a real wow factor!
The room was very spacious as we received a family room with a double bed and a fold out bed for our 2 year old daughter, there was lots of space in the room for our daughter to move around! there is tea and coffee making facilities which is always good after a long days travelling! lots of tv channels to watch and movies and internet are available for purchase if needed.
The spirit health club was very clean with a lovely pool and kiddes area, sauna, steam room and gym which we used alot during our stay!
The food was excellent, on both evenings we ate in the bar from the restaurant menu, the steaks were so good on the first evening that we went back for them the second evening, and kids eat free which is a nice touch!
Breakfast was great, full English buffet with all sorts to choose from, and a lovely continental spread aswell from cheeses, hams and lovely yogurts! It was just lovely and would fill you up for the day!
And last but certainly not least The Staff! All areas of the hotel's staff we encountered were very friendly and professional and I must give credit where it is due, Maz who must be the duty manager or reception manager was absolutely fantastic, such a lovely genuine man who is so approachable and always carried a smile on his face, he really is a credit to you!
Thank you Holiday Inn Portsmouth! we will certainly be back again :)

My Wife and Young Son (7 years old) stayed for 1 night..18th May and it has to be the Best Holiday Inn we have ever stayed in. Even beats a recent stay at the Hilton in Birmingham!!
The staff were excellent, very polite and helpful, parking was no problem, our room was very big and spacious for a family room, plenty of towels and a refreshing thing to see....plenty of plug sockets!!!
We indulged in the Indoor Pool and it was superb and the Staff on duty were a credit to the hotel.
Perfectly located for the Seafront and Old Portsmouth.
The only Criticism is that we felt the cost of the breakfast was a bit steep but it didnt ruin our stay as it gave us an excuse to take a nice morning stroll along the sea front to a lovely little cafe that someone had recommend.
We will be definitely returning in the near future.

Does not look promising from outside but okay inside! Stayed for one night two day conference and paid £195 for two buffet lunches, evening dinner, B&B room plus free parking so amazing VFM. Rooms are basic but have everything you need apart from a safe. Hotel has a nice looking pool and spa – sadly I did not have enough time to sample. Hotel is at right angles to the seafront but some rooms have sea views. Location is okay for sightseeing Spinnaker Tower, Historic Ships, Gunwharf Quays and Southsea promenade including hovercraft ferry to the IoW. Location is also okay for business BVT Dockyard and Portsmouth Airport industrial area which includes big companies like BAE Systems, Astrium and H+S Aviation.

Room Tip: Try and get a sea view!

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of this hotel. Our rooms were clean and comfortable and the bathroom facilities were of a high standard. We enjoyed the breakfast (although pastries and croissants were in short supply and disappeared as soon as they were put out) and the hotel is well located. It was quiet at night, except for the banging of doors by inconsiderate guests but that happens in all hotels. Had not expected to be so impressed by this hotel but would definitely recommend it.
