“Excellent value for money”
Reviewed 15 April 2012

Our room was very clean and comfortable, well furnished and very attractively decorated. The bed was large and very comfortable and there was an excellent cooked breakfast available the following morning. The Pier is well situated a short distance from Gunwharf Quays - our stay was very brief so we didnt make use of any local facilities but everything was within walking distance and The Pier would make a very good base for those exploring the area. Our room was at the very front of the house overlooking a busy main road but there was no issue with noise at all which was a real bonus.
The Pier could be an excellent B&B but needs to make a few little changes. The en suite 'bathroom' - little more than a pre moulded plastic unit - is too small for comfort. The shower was somewhat temperamental with water temperature fluctuating dramatically and was missing a shower curtain or screen. Other small issues were the lack of bedside tables - only one was provided despite there being room for another - and the lights above the bed ought to perhaps have pull cords. Finally, be prepared to have enough money to hand for a parking permit - we were surprised to be asked for a £20 returnable deposit for one and felt embarrassed to not have the money available. The proprietor agreed to take £10 as its all we had but I do feel this amount should have been made very clear before booking.
That said, the cost of a room at the Pier was by far the most competitive in the area, making it well worth a visit.
