being a semi-retired maintenance engineer, liked looking at the old tools and the way they were used to manufacture and repair the various parts of the ship.

“Fascinating”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2013

A great little museum which is possibly easily missed alongside the ships and other attractions in the Dockyard, but it really sets the scene well for the rest of a visit to the site. Definitely worth including on any visit to the Dockyard.

“Well Worth a Visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2013

This is a gem of an exhibition that can easily be missed. It is particularly good that it is set in one of the original buildings and whilst not a World Famous attraction like The Victory and The Mary Rose, nevertheless if it was not for the work put in by all these specialists the bigger attractions would never have come into fruition. We particularly enjoyed the time lines and maps that trace the growth of The Dockyard. It is astonishing how many skills are represented and in the heyday of the works it would have been a leading site in The Industrial Revolution. The whole display is shown in a most imaginative way and the sound bites, videos, figures and storyboards bring it to life. There are plenty of hands on opportunities for children with flags, knots and rigging with the bonus of a good café within the building. Entry is free and it is open when the Dockyard itself is open. Having said all that it is disappointing that on initial arrival the “Dockyard Gate” entrance to the exhibit is spoiled by an excess of stuck on notices that detract. Also the Clocking on Machine was not working plus the speaker announcements were so garbled they could not be understood. It would be good if this could be corrected before the main holiday season.

For a start it's free!. Sights and sounds throughout the exhibition realistically done keeping you interested. Better than some museums that you pay a lot money to visit.

“Fantastic Display”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 May 2013

We really enjoyed this exhibit and the kids found it fascinating. It's long enough to be worthwhile yet short enough to keep the young children interested. It has great information about living onboard the ships and at varying periods of time. My 2 (aged 6 and 3) especially enjoyed the ships on display.
