While the premises may be a little tired, the café is clean and tidy, the views over the harbour are spectacular and the service is excellent and amazing value for money. Although I cannot say that the meals are the best I have ever had, and I don't consider this to be a valid point, where else can you get a full English breakfast for £3.50, cooked to order, piping hot and brought to your table. This is, after all, a café and not a restuarant.
Service is both friendly and efficient and, when time and conditions allow, a bit of friendly banter is a bonus - well done ladies.
Train driver and retired banker.

“While away the time”
Reviewed 30 July 2013

Having arrived by bus to visit Portsmouth we needed a coffee to revive ourselves. We rembered visiting this cafe a couple of years ago. It's up a flight of steps and feels fairly basic once inside. Staff are friendly and helpful and prices reasonable. While away the time watching the ferries come in and out and watching all the passengers rushing around while you sit calmly enjoying your coffee.

“COFFEE BREAK”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

When near historic Dockyard stop off and enjoy a very nice coffee break at Harbour View Café. Sit on the balcony and watch the ships sail by. Lovely. Coffee good and staff very pleasant and helpful. Great for that very welcome feet up and break.

“Harbour View Cafe, the Hard Interchange, Portsmouth”
Reviewed 18 July 2013

It was an extremely hot day and my feet hurt from tramping around on hard ground in the heat for hours so I decided to have a sit down and a drink. I came upon the cafe from the back, where the bus station is. I very nearly didn't go into it because it's up a long flight of steps, but I decided to have a look anyway. The first thing I noticed when I got into the cafe was the smell of frying oil - like a fish and chip shop. The furniture is rather shabby and the tables and floor weren't all that clean, but the poor woman behind the counter seemed rather flustered and hot and despite that she was friendly so I overlooked it. I ordered a toasted teacake and a cup of tea and sat down. The view is spectacular! The side windows overlook HMS Warrior, moored by the side of the Historic Naval Dockyard and the front ones give a view of the various ferries and other ships and boats that pass by - not to mention the roofs of buses and taxis! My teacake arrived (brought by a youngish girl) and it was piping hot with 2 packs of butter, but no jam, and my tea was in a mug with a pink Union Flag on it. The woman behind the counter came out and cleaned the tables and swept the floor so that was fine. Another thing I noticed were the colourful murals on the wall just inside the entrance (see photo). The prices are very good. My teacake and tea together were £1.80 and earlier I'd spent over £2 for just a coffee in the cafe in the Spinnaker Tower! It's very well positioned for the railway station, the bus station, the ferry to Gosport and the Historic Dockyard. All in all, despite the smell of hot oil, it's a pleasant place and good value.
