For £35 a room you cant complain. Location superb, £3 for car parking was a bargain, Macdonalds next door for a cup of tea, Ikea a walk round the corner for breakfast! Could have done with another pillow as doubling it over and using the towles wasn't enough and no chance of getting anything out of receptionist.

You wouldn't want to share a room with somebody you weren't very friendly with as the bathroom is the bedroom.

But wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if needed an overnight in Southampton.

There are a lot of hotels and Bed and Breakfasts in Southampton - yet a lot you wouldn't want to stay in. At this price, you look for clean and comfortable and accept that you will be missing a few of the luxuries of the higher-priced establishments.

eTap does 'budget' very well. It is very central and close to the station and is on a retail park with various chain restaurants close by.

As others have said, it has a bit of an upmarket youth hostel feel to it (there's something about those bunk beds!). Rooms are on the small size. The Travelodge (which is a little out of town) has bigger rooms. The Premier Inn Southampton has more comfortable beds - yet you pay a bit more for this.

There are a few niggles - WifI is only available in the reception area (which is a bit weird). That said, there is a McDonalds next door that does wifi for free, Also I too had problems with the website. I've always ended up ringing to book, because I have often needed a room last minute and the website often seems to tell me it is full.

Overall, I highly recommend the eTap for anyone looking for budget accommodation in Southampton.

we stayed here for one night as were going to a friend's birthday party and didn't want to drive home.
this is a very basic but cheap hotel
the room was quite small but fine for two people
it was clean enough with fresh towels and clean sheets (although they were quite worn as i noticed a few holes)
the flat screen tv had the basic channels plus news and music channels
the receptionist was friendly and the car parking was £3 for 24 hours with plenty of spaces
we paid £2.95 for the breakfast as i heard it was good but was hardly anything there, next time i will go to mcdonalds instead
you can purhase soap, shampoo, drinks and snacks from reception for your room
There is lots of shops nearby, (Ikea, Tesco home and boots) and is a short walk to the Solent and local museums
Overall i would be happy to stay here for one night again but wouldnt want to stay for a longer period of time

Dear GuernseyBluefinch,

Thank you for your recent review of our hotel. It is always good to receive feedback from our guests.

I was disappointed to read of your dissatisfaction with your stay, due to the noise coming from other guests that were staying in the hotel during your stay.

We accommodate many types of guest’s and although we monitor them to ensure they do not put themselves or others at risk, sometimes some do manage to reserve rooms.

Please be assured that in such instances; we do act appropriately and don’t allow them to re-book in to the hotel.

Obviously, we can not ‘Assume’ nor ‘discriminate’ against our guests and therefore we can only act after incidents occur.

Again, please accept my appologies on behalf of the other guests.

Booked a night here after reading a report in a Sunday magazine supplement on the hotel and Southampton in general - which is about a 50 minute drive from our home.

On arrival was greeted by a friendly receptionist. Cost £3 to park the car for 24 hours - bargain. Room was very clean - but basic. Shower opening in the room was unusual as was the basin in the room. Suppose it can be best described as bedsit like. Bed was really comfortable tho and the flat screen TV was pleasant surprise. No wardrobe or cupboards but a little shelf in the corner with hangers underneath it. There was also a small dressing table which was handy to put things on. However, make sure you take a hairdryer.

We spent the afternoon just checking out the area - some brilliant shopping! Also walked to the dock area and checked out the cruise liners.

Took a cab to Oxford Street in the evening to eat/drink. Cab driver advised this was the 'quieter' area not inundated with 'youngsters'. He was right. Great pubs and restaurants and we had a fab meal at the Olive Tree. Cab fare was £4.50 from the hotel.

We paid the additional monies for continental breakfast (£2.95 per person). Would suggest you give this a miss - it was just a choice of 2 cereals, toast, croissants, tea and fruit juice. Not sure what we were expecting, but possibly a little more choice, ie. fruit, yoghurt? Still for £2.95 we weren't too upset at the lack of choice and the cheap room more than off-set the money. Hotel is right next door is a MacDonalds, so next time we will breakfast there - also TGI Fridays next door if you didn't want to venture into town for the evening.

All in all we had a great afternoon and evening in Southampton and will definitely go back when we get another spare Saturday. For £35 a night, we will definitely stay at the Etap again - it gave us more money to spend on our night out!

We stayed one saturday night in early June. The car park is spacious and only £3 for 24 hours. The blonde receptionist was obviously having a bad day...no hello or welcome greeting and only said the bare minimum on check in.

Apart froma a bit of a youth hostel feel this hotel is great. You have to remember if you are only paying £35 you wont get a 5 star hotel. But you do get the things that are important. The beds are comfy, with nice pillows and quilts and the showers are really powerful (once you get used to the shower cubicle opening into the bedroom)

We didnt hear any noise from fellow guests during the night and had a greats night sleep.

A word of advice...if youve got long hair take a towel with you as you only get one each and there is no hairdryer!

Unfortunaltely the receptioist must have been having another bad day when she completed check out with us!

Would recommend to anyone loking for a basic hotel not wating to spend too much money. Was definately money well spent.

This hotel is a very cheap budget hotel. It is the cheapest hotel i have stayed in in the uk for a very long time.
The rooms are very small but have tv and a shower. There is a cafe down stairs but you can also use the bar and restaurant that is in the hotel ibis next door.
This hotel was perfect for me as i wanted something cheap but close to the southampton airport.
If you just want a clean comfy room for the night then this place is perfect.
The prices are just £32 per night.
