We dropped in by chance after finding the place on Trip Advisor. We would never have seen it if it wasn't for this. We had an early meal at 5.30ish, hadn't booked a table but were accommodated quickly and the staff moved a spare table into a small space to seat us. The food was really great, had king prawns and bruschetta to start with the lasagne and the chef's special pizza as mains. The food tasted fantastic and very authentic. I've noticed a few reviews saying that the pizzas taste very strongly of garlic but must stress that when ordering we were offered garlic or no garlic, so it is a choice given. The bill came in at £30 exactly for two courses and a drink each which we thought was very reasonable. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, it was obviously a busy evening for them but they still accommodated us without trouble. Would definitely go again and have already recommended to family!

Wanted a restaurant in walking distance of the Mayflower Theatre for a pre-show meal. Originally wanted to go the Vestry but turned out it was shut for a private party that night - but this infact did us a favour.

Piccolo Mondo has a very modest exterior. Infact if you didnt know it was there you wouldnt really see it. Very unassuming from the outside and although small inside, this was a fantastic little restaurant. Luckily we did book - as it was very busy even at 5pm in the evening.

The staff were very friendly and attentive and knew their stuff. We asked simply for a garlic bread as a share starter, enough for four and they brought us one plate and this was plenty. Best garlic bread i have ever tasted. The fresh bread base was light and crisp and the garlic and herb dressing was heavenly (you must be a garlic lover!!!).

We all opted for the Chef's Special pizza which was served piping hot and generously topped. I struggled to finish mine (got greedy with the garlic bread) but it was absolutely lovely.

Will definately go back when we havent got theatre tickets so we can take our time and enjoy the food more. The pasta dishes that we saw being delivered to the next table were very generous and the side salad looked amazing - one serving could easily serve two people.

The kitchen is tiny and they must work as a well oiled machine to churn out the standard of food that they do in such a confined space.

Love finding places like this. Their forty years plus experience definately shows. A little slice of Italy in the centre of Southampton.

This is my favourite restaurant, despite being possibly the smallest one I've ever visited.
The service is second to none, always friendly and helpful, They always make you feel welcome.

This is one of the few places that have perfected the art of serving customers, That difficult line between leaving you too long and constantly hurrying you to order or checking if you are ready for the next course.

So, impressive service, what's the food like? I'll tell you. It's fantastic. there job done. What? you want more detail? OK. It's very well presented and in good quantities too. They don't hide their portion sized by using the smallest plate possible. i sometime feel the chef is trying to test just how much I can eat. he'll never beat me though.

So, we've been served, we've eaten, now to the bill. This is another area you will be impressed with. firstly the bill isn't rushed out to you the moment you've put the last morsel of food in your mouth. They don't seem to be in too much of a hurry to get you out and another customer in.
This is affordable luxury, everyone (who likes Italian food) should go here if they get the chance.

Go and enjoy the food here, but not when I want a table.

We had a meal for two here on the back of the recommendations on Tripadvisor. Food and service were great and the place has a true Italian feel to it. Portions were good and the chef was upset when my wife did not eat all her main meal but it was just portion size. We will be back soon.
