After reading the other review on this site I would in most parts agree. The rooms were lovely, the bathrooms great and the service really really good with lovely smiley young faces at breakfast (the food at breakfast was lovely), and at the bar. However BEWARE and book with caution -
I was there with my husband for the boat show at the end of September 09.
I was told that the rooms were soundproofed - well, if they were there was a jolly big hole in our room. I had specifically asked about noise as the hotel is above a late night bar and had been assured of a quiet night. We stayed in Room No 3 for the first night and it would not be a lie to say that we may as well of had our bed in the middle of the bar for the noise and vibration that we had. The noise did not stop until well after 1a.m. The excuse I was given was that some of the rooms had not been finished in time. Deprived of sleep, the manager moved us to Room No 6 for the 2nd evening - this room had no music noise or vibration but an electrical box above the door that buzzes all night. It is supposed to be checked regularly, but states the last inspection was in 2006. I had asked for a reduction in the bill as neither my husband or I got much sleep if any over the 2 nights, but this request was overlooked and no one was around other than a young waitress on checkout. The showers on both evenings were at best tepid. I tried them both AM and PM, so whilst they look great in reality were not that enjoyable. I'm sure we just had a bad room on both nights as everything else was really good. Have to give it a low rating as it was truly one of the worst hotel experiences ever. If you like your sleep BEWARE! or make sure you do not stay in room 3 especially, or the one next door (as this sounded almost as noisy from the corridor) the rooms on the other side did seem to be quieter, but that was judging from the noise that appeared to come from the room when in the corridor. That may sound odd, but the music seemed to come out of room 3! If you are planing for late nights then you will love this place, otherwise be very cautious.

My girlfriend and I stayed two nights at Cargo over a weekend attending the Southampton boatshow.

Our room was trendy and spotless with one of the comfiest beds I have ever slept in. The bathroom was superb with an excellent shower. We ate in the bar/restaurant on the Friday night and were very pleased with the food; and atmostsphere; likewise breakfast was a relaxed affair, served until 10:30am with plenty of newspapers and a good choice of things to eat.

Checkout wasn't until 12 noon, so perfect after a late night. Car parking was available in the College Street Carpark nearby which was about £8 from Friday evening until Sunday midday. There were some spaces opposite Cargo for unloading luggage and Oxford street has trendy bars and eateries without any riffraff.

One of the best things about Cargo is the service - all the staff were extremely helpful, efficient and friendly (and pretty too!)

Would happily go back for more and would recommend to friends.
