“Flavours that words cannot descibe”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

Is was the best Indian food I have had outside India.
When I tasted this lovely lunch buffet it took me 10 years back in time when I was in Karnataka.
The restaurant atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and you felt privileged to visit there.

“Great tastes even if not a vege!”

Try some of the starters - all the ones we shared in big group were amazing! Very friendly service too.

“Hit & Miss Food - Dreadful Service”
Reviewed 31 May 2014 via mobile

This was our second visit to Indian Melody. There aren't that many veggie or vegan restaurants about and we were excited about the menu options available. Sadly, things have gone drastically downhill since our previous visit and we will not be returning again. The service was genuinely the worst we have ever encountered in all our global travels, and half of the food was pretty poor too.

We were harangued by the waitress for our menu choices on no less than four occasions within the first few minutes of our arrival, leaving us feeling pressured to order rapidly. When we gave in and started to give our choices, the waitress interrupted us abruptly saying "that's enough" and refusing to take more than our starters.

When we declined to order one of the overpriced soft drinks and requested a jug of water, the waitress reluctantly brought a tiny jug (less than one glass each) of tepid water, which she refused to refill despite our requests.

The starters arrived and we have so say that the gobi manchurian was very tasty (the only thing stopping this from being a 'terrible' review). The other starter was however a small dish of dry cashew nuts priced at £5.25 and no different to anything you could buy in Tesco,

Amazingly, the waitress (who informed us that she was the maître d and training other staff?!?) then came to our table to take our mains order when we were mid-way through eating our starters. As we were unable to speak (due to full mouths!) she went away, only to return 30 seconds later. She then refused to go until we had looked again at the menu and ordered the mains.

The mains arrived and the capsicum paneer was very pleasant. However the dhansak was basically a dish of frozen peas and carrots with a small amount of yellow goo. No mention was made on the menu of the presence of the vegetables in what is usually a lentil dish (no lentils on evidence here). Not being a fan of frozen carrots and peas I requested a dhansak without these. I was abruptly informed that the chef refused to do it any other way and that I'd have to order something else. We said that we'd make do with sharing the paneer, but our meal was then interrupted by the waitress a further three times for her to tell us the same information in an unapologetic manner. The waitress did say that she had "decided" not to charge us for the dhansak that we didn't have and, from her manner, apparently thought that this was far more than we deserved.

How can service be done this badly? It must take quite some effort! Sadly a world apart from the experience we had at the restaurant over a year ago.

“Wonderful food and eccentric venue”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Absolutely fabulous vegetarian Indian food - generous portion sizes and wonderful flavours. Rare to get good south Indian food outside central London and I will definitely eat here again. Restaurant is full of old Anglo Indian furniture and memorabilia - a lovely jumble that makes this high street restaurant something significantly above the ordinary

“Authentic, Different, 10/10”
Reviewed 26 May 2014

Really nice, authentic south Indian food. So different from the normal indian food you get in the UK. The dosas were amazing. I'm usually a passionate carnivore but here i forgot what meat is! Beautiful vegetarian food.
