firstly the bar, when we arrived a refreshing drink was needed, we waited for a long time until another colleague from the hotel came and asked if we needed serving, when we said yes they went off to try and find a bar person, we finally got ours drinks, no apology given for not being around.....second attempt to use the bar,,,,once again no staff at the bar, when they arrived we ordered food and drink and was told it would be out shortly. we waited and waited before our order was even passed to someone to make it as the bar person was chatting to a colleague, when we asked how long we were told yes yes yes , and if this is customer service from novotel hotels this will be my last stay with them.

i can not put a good word here for the bar,

“Disappointing”
Reviewed 14 September 2013

Having used the Elements Bar for light lunches/informal meetings on many occasions during the last 20 years of my career, both of the two recent bar lunches my wife and I have had in the Elements bar have been disappointing - all the more so because the location is excellent in Southampton, with good parking and immaculately presented public areas on the ground floor.

However, whereas in previous years there was a good atmosphere in the bar with good clientele numbers, I cannot help but think the lack of atmosphere and poor clientele numbers (there were 6 other people in the bar and restaurant whilst we were there) is at least partly a product of the modern minimalistic decor and/or the poor selection/presentation of food. Surely all in the service industries should be doing their best to promote their organisations - recession or otherwise.

As to food, my wife's coffee was cold at the point of service, as was my soup and we had a server who preferred to argue. And as for the toasted cheese and tomato sandwich, it might have been more satisfying to just donate £4.95, whereas we didn't think there was any point in asking for a third item to be replaced.

The reception staff were excellent, but this experience was otherwise all the more disappointing having recently booked to stay at an Accor Group hotel elsewhere in a few months time.

“Great breakfast”
Reviewed 7 September 2013

Great breakfast with everything you could wish before starting a long day. A large choice of very fresh food.
I had a Ceasar salad for lunch, with chicken and I did not really like the raw small anchovy hidden in the bottom of the bowl. Just like the "boquerones" tapas in Spain. I did not think it was a good choice. Otherwise the place was very nice and enjoyable.

“For a hotel restaurant...Good!”
Reviewed 24 July 2013

Although the menu is relatively static without any specials to allow the chef to show-off a bit, the food and drink is generally good. Staff in the main friendly and efficient!

“Perfect position”
Reviewed 26 May 2013

It was perfect as the weather was not very good and I didn't fancy going out. Good choice, not bad price, service is good. Only inconvenient that the wifi was not working in the restaurant but in the bar just next door...
