We stayed at this hotel for one night as we were visiting Southampton for a speedboat experience. Sadly this hotel needs a serious refurb. The outside and lobby set fantastic promise yet I started to feel a pang of disappointment as soon as we got out the lift. It was seriously stuffy, then on entering our room we realised that there was no air on! No windows were open, we were left a useless fan that didn't work properly. The room itself was very small and in need of an update. We could hear next door at 5am having their room wake up call then all conversations and them getting ready. So I had a useless night sleep being too hot and disturbed by noise.
We used the pool and jacuzzi which was lovely.
The food. We decided to book a table in the restaurant and I was so impressed with the food quality and presentation....hats off to the chef! Not cheap but worth the prices. Breakfast was lovely too, great selection and fresh.
Would I stay again, no, but I would visit the restaurant again.

Room Tip: If they have an air on one....book it!

It was always a dream to stay here and we finally achieved it ten years ago. Visited with our children when they were small, but had to change to renting a house for the week to accommodate growing needs. Went back at Christmas after a four year break and was saddened to see the signs of decay and neglect. Have heard that the hotel is up for sale and can only hope that the new owners improve the furnishings to the previous standard. The atrium is still lovely and the food is very good but that doesn't make up for stains and tears on furniture and mould in the shower.

Room Tip: Self-conscious teenagers enjoyed breakfast in their rooms - only £2.00 extra per day.

Upon first look this impressive building is modern and therefore should house many of the facilities you should find in some of the better hotels in this country. Sadly this is a case of 'all fur coat and no knickers' I'm afraid. Once again the reception area is impressive, the receptionist very pleasant and the bar and restaurant quite large with a good outside patio area. It's a rather grand affair all around until you travel up the lift and the heat, quite well controlled in the downstairs area, begins to take control. Unfortunately the landings and bedrooms only cause the heat to linger. The bedroom I experienced was at the rear of the building overlooking the bin area (more on that later). The window was wide open (with about half a dozen flies circling the ceiling) but this did not provide any respite to the heat. A fan was available to move the hot air around but no air conditioning. The price of the room did not match the room in anyway. The coving had cobwebs, which fluttered romantically in the breeze, and the bathroom was OK, if a little 'tired'. The breakfast was fine as was the dinner. To call it Grand Harbour may give the naïve the impression that its close to the water, far from it it's part of a massive retail area and a couple of miles from the marina area. Sleep was difficult to say least and if sleep did come it was ruined by the bins being noisily emptied at 6.30am.

Room Tip: Suggest asking for a quiet front facing room, away from as much direct sunlight as possible and hope...

Stayed here once before about 7 years ago and yes it won't be long before the hotel needs some refurb but it's still a good 4 star hotel and the prices have been hugely reduced since my last stay so I would say that evens it out.
The swimming pool, gym, steam, jacuzzi and sauna are great, we spent a lovely afternoon using the facilities. I booked a room with balcony facing the sea which I'd recommend, it was spacious and as the hotel doesn't have air con you got a lovely breeze with the windows or doors open.
Some things have lost their sparkle, bathroom towels needed replacing and the shower tray was old, but it was all clean and plenty of hot water. Bed was huge. Fridge came in handy and there was complimentary chocolates and water.
Breakfast was great, for £3 per room you could have it delivered to your room which is very reasonable.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Throwing distance to West Quay and walking distance to lots of bars and restaurants.

Room Tip: Book a room with a balcony.

Booked just the single night before a cruise to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday, I had high expectations too as I wanted something up-market.

The friendlyness of the staff and attention to detail made this a special place, regardless of the excellent food and facilities, it was one of the highlights of our holiday and i would deffinately reccommend this Hotel to anyone.

De Vere group do seem to know what is important.

We booked this hotel as we were visiting peppa pig world and thought it would be a nice treat. The room was dirty on arrival they had not hoovered under the pull up bed and when I moved it into a better position in the room discovered broken biscuits and crumbs everywhere. The walls were covered in slashes of tea and chocolate. My daughters pull up bed had springs coming through so we padded it with the quilt. The cleaners did come back and quickly hoovered and wiped down the walls but i later discovered more slashes and a half eaten biscuit else where. The shower was disgusting and made me feel quite sick. Old and full of mildew. The rest of the bathroom was clean and actually looked like it was newer than the shower so I opted for a bath. The restaurant food in the evening was in contrast very good as was the breakfast and the staff in this part of the hotel were friendly and polite. We would not recommend this hotel. Maybe there are some rooms which are clean but room 140 was not one of them!
