Ideal night stop if travelling on a cruise from Southampton. Just had a little bit of difficulty locating the entrance but if you look for the turning between IKEA and McDonalds, it's just behind TGI Friday's.Staff very freindly and efficient. Good prices if you book 21 days in advance.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay
and look forward to seeing you again in the near future.
There was nothing outstanding about this hotel in terms of its situation, facilities and restaurant - all of which were basic but adequate - but what made it stand out were the genuinely friendly and helpful staff members who went out of their way to ensure we had a good stay.
Well-placed for cruise passengers (which we were), the hotel is sited next door to several similar hotels just a short taxi ride from both the train station and docks, pretty close but further than most would care to walk with luggage in tow.
The hotel has a restaurant serving basic fare of the pre-prepared microwavable type - OK for refuelling but nothing more. There is a TGI Friday's within 100 yards of the hotel, and the West Quay Shopping Centre with John Lewis, Marks & Spencer etc is less than five minutes away on foot.
Thank you very much for your review - delighted that you enjoyed your visit. I look forward
to welcoming you back soon.
I think Ibis is hard to beat for value for money. The hotel is ideally situated, being close to the marina and town centre. You can park up when you arrive and easily walk. Reception is always polite and welcoming, and the bar/restaurant is well priced with a decent choice.
The rooms are very clean. Nothing fancy, but at this budget you don't expect it.
Parking is £5 per night. Internet access/film channels £3.99, though there is a computer by reception for those who don't want this.
We didn't bother with breakfast in the hotel as McDonalds is directly adjacent the car park. Within a very short walking distance you will find TGI Fridays, across the road is a multiplex cinema and Frankie and Benny's. A 5 minute stroll to Ikea and Westpoint shopping complex.
A great location.
Thank you for your very kind words. Very much appreciated and my team will be delighted
to hear that you enjoyed yourselves. Look forward to welcoming you back.
Having booked for a couple of nights before I checked on here, I ended up being pretty wary of what I might come across. I needn't have really worried.
Location wise is pretty good - central Southampton with ease of access to buses, trains, coaches and all the shopping facilities. Right next to a McDonald's, TGI's and Ikea.
The view is nothing to write home about but I certainly didn't expect anything magical.
Check in went very smoothly and the reception staff were incredibly friendly - more than I've experienced elsewhere (I stay in hotels A LOT). The reception and bar area was relatively small but clearly recently redecorated so very bright, modern and airy.
The lift was broken so had to lug my luggage up a few flights of stairs but that couldn't be helped and was fixed pretty quickly. The room is small - smaller than a Premier Inn. I was staying with my boyfriend but might have concerns about space if there were children present.
Compared to Premier Inn or even, say, Travelodge, the decor is a little outdated and the bathroom - while very clean - is probably in need of updating.
The towels are tiny and there were only three pillows for a huge bed. The bed was definitely very, very firm (but I like that, so no big deal.) The chair with the desk is uncomfortable which is annoying as there is no WiFi in the rooms(!) and is still cabled so you can't really get away with stretching your laptop over to the bed. They need to upgrade. Sleep wasn't an issue for me. I didn't hear a sound from either inside of the hotel or out (I stayed mid-week).
For a really reasonable price (£3.99) you get their all inclusive broadband package, which is worth the money. For 24 hours - you get internet access, use of the internet facilities on the television and access to movies to stream. (Recent movies incl. The Help and Girl With A Dragon Tattoo) which seemed to be added to daily.
I didn't eat in the restaurant but my boyfriend and I went to the bar to order a pizza and wine to take up to the room. Reasonably priced and very nice so no qualms. Opted out of the breakfast and popped across the road to McDonald's in the morning. Ikea do cheap and lovely food too.
Check out was fine and, all in all, everything went very smoothly. So smoothly, that I've booked another stay. I use budget hotels a lot for work and, while I prefer the slight extra bit of space and luxury you get in a Premier Inn, this is a very nice and viable alternative.
Thanks for your review. I’m glad you have a good stay with us. See you on your next trip.
