Southampton isn't the sort of place I'd go for a holiday but was a necessary location to prevent the stress of a 200 mile trip on the day of a cruise.
The hotel is set near to a shopping centre and across the road from the docks. There are several similar hotels in the vicinity together with the usual fast food places.
I like Ibis, you get a cheap(ish) clean and tidy hotel close to where you want to be , so are there any negatives?
Well be careful. My son warned me that choosing a city based hotel for a Saturday was probably a mistake and could attract stag and hen parties and the related problems that entails. Needless to say his prophecy came true and we had a stag party in the room opposite ours, and the noise, booze, general threat was worrying...for a time, then suddenly they all went quiet and we had no further bother that night. Now whether that was the hotel taking action or them going out all night I do not know, and overall it had little effect on our stay.
However ,it has made me wary of staying there again at a weekend, so you may wish to consider a more out of town location, like a motorway service travel lodge...it could be quieter!More
