“Novotel next to an Ibis and a Formul 1”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2012

This is a good Novotel with a decent swimming pool, which is the only benefit really from the Ibis just next door. The three Accor hotels share a common parking (£££). NO FREE WIFI. One can surf free of charge on the Apple computer at the lobby, but you will have to kill everybody in the cue in front of you if you want to use the computer before three in the morning. The restaurant is too chichi and too expensive. Just go to the T.G.I. Friday's at the entrance of the parking lot.

I spend over 150+ nights in hotels each year on business......This has to be the worst hotel I've ever stayed in....... Let's start with the bed........ It's a camp bed really ...... Absolute rubbish..... A slatted base with a 100mm thick "cheap" thin mattress and this was a "Superior Room"....... called the duty manager who told me that all of the beds were like it. Something to do with ease of housekeeping....... What a ridiculous statement...... I've stayed in many Cheap hotels on my travels..... Some of them less than £20 per night in China..... But never ever with such an uncomfortable bed...

To say that this Novotel is up market from Accor to the Ibis and Etap is a joke.....unless your expected to sleep on the floor in the other less expensive hotels (on the same site)........

Thoroughly disappointed......will never stay at an Accor hotel again.......

Thank you for taking the time to post your thoughts here on Trip advisor and for contacting me directly. Our beds do have a memory foam mattress on a slatted base. Our bases do raise up to allow our Housekeeping team to change the beds at a more comfortable height. Again thank you for your feedback and I do hope that you will consider Novotel Southampton in the future.
Kind Regards

Only about 2 minutes from the railway station.Easy access to the main foyer.Staff very helpful and while we were there a good deal on internet and TV was available. Our room had plenty of space and the bathroom very clean. The hotel is within easy walking distance of food outlets as is the town itself. There was also a lovely indoor pool and gym available. We had a lovely buffet breakfast with a great variety on offer . This hotel is ideally situated for those about to take a cruise also. We could see our ship from the hotel window which added to the excitement! Would not hesitate to stay there again.

Modern hotel adjacent to the dock area - from the M27 follow the Southampton Docks sign then West Quay and you will find the Novotel on your left. We searched the internet and found a rate £70 cheaper than the rack rate (including breakfast) - which we thought rather expensive for this hotel. Parking is plentiful and shared with the other hotels in the complex. It costs £5 per 24 hours which can be added to your final bill if required. Reception is large, bright and clean and incorporates the bar area which has comfortable seating. Drinks are reasonably priced as is the menu. However there are several places to eat within the complex (TGI's and the like).
Checking in was quick and the receptionist was cheerful and informative. We had a superior family room and the sofa bed was already made up - nice touch. The room was well appointed with ironing board, hairdryer, safe, mini bar and tea and coffee. The decoration was rather tired looking but this is a well used hotel so to be expected. The bed was too firm for my liking and the pillows hard - I did request a softer pillow but none available, perhaps bring your own!! Whilst the bedding was absolutely clean it was rather 'grey' looking and in need of replacement.
The bathroom was spotless with good quality toiletries and fluffy towels. There was a bath and shower. There was a separate toilet, very useful as we had our 10 year old grandson with us but the flush was poor and needs looking at. (Room 319).
We spent a lot of time in the pool area, lovely warm water and we mostly had it to ourselves. Plenty of towels available. Novotel you need to check the pool area and changing rooms more often as dirty towels were left there in a heap all day. Incidentally the signage indicating the bin for used towels is very poor. There are no keys to the lockers so leave all valuables in your room. There is a well equipped gym and a sauna.
There is an Xbox in the reception area, also internet access.
Breakfast was in the restaurant, a pleasant room and the staff were efficient and friendly. Plenty of choice and the cooked buffet style breakfast was hot - so often these hotel breakfasts are lukewarm!
We used room service for a meal one night and found the food fresh and hot, the charge was £3 above the price of the meal.
All in all we would use this hotel again if we found a good rate, we had a great view over the docks and the liners. There was no noise once in the room, despite being a very busy area.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor overlooking the hotel complex and docks. Very quiet.

We have stayed at quite a few Novotels here and in France and generally speaking they are pretty good 3-4 star hotels.

The Novotel Southampton is perfectly situated for cruise ship travellers, you can see the ships from the bedrooms. The reception area is modern and welcoming, there is a pleasant bar/restaurant and all is well on the ground floor. Parking at £5.00 for 24 hrs is good value and very convenient.

However, our room was starting to look quite tired and the bed was cheap and broken. Unfortunately we arrived very late due to traffic problems and did not have time to ask to be moved (we had a dinner out booked with our son) or clearly we would have done. The pillows were thin and uncomfortable, and there is considerable noise at night from police car sirens leaving the adjacent station and late night club goers - just remember you are in a city centre after all. To get a good nights sleep the windows would have to be closed tight and the air conditioning on if necessary. The mastic in the shower cubicle was mouldy and needed replacing and the towels had holes in them. The management need to look at these maintenance issues so that they get addressed. We paid £90.00 for the overnight stay and wondered if the rooms in the Ibis or Etap were cheaper and possibly in better order.

I would recommend Novotel for its location if you were going on a cruise but check your room and especially the bed before you unpack.

Stayed at the Novotel Southampton for 1 night. It is a pleasant hotel, the reception area is very light and modern, and the rooms were clean and well presented. The only thing wrong was the pillows, they are very thin. We ate in the restaurant and the food was very good. We didn't have breakfast as we felt it was a bit pricey £13.95) for a continental breakfast, but as we were leaving early in the morning, this wasn't a problem anyway.
