Hotel is in a great location and could be lovely, but....it needs a major refurbishment, the inside does look better than the out, but it needs new paint, carpets and curtains. The bedding etc are all very clean, nice size rooms with ensuites (including a bath) and the staff are very helpful. At the end of the day its fine for 1 night etc.

Used as a 1 night stay before a cruise from Southampton port.

Easy to find, great location. Yes, its dated and in need of a refurb but its a clean large room and very comfortable. Lift wasnt working so had to use the stairs and they are strange to say the least!!

Didnt use any other facilities and ate out in the evening and for breakfast so cant comment on these.

Would stay again for the same price we paid & parking was a bargain £4 per 24hrs.

On arrival we knew this was not going to be a luxurious stay, the outside is in need of a lick of paint. Our room was massive, randomly had 2 double beds in? In need of a refurb and decoration as is very dated. Went in the lift once and spent the rest of a time there going up & down the stairs as its a health and safety hazard! The customer service of the staff is not brilliant, no bright smiles on arrival or greetings you get in most hotels. Maybe if they spent some money on the place rather than the amount spent on tv screens and cctv they seem to have behind reception this hotel could be amazing, considering the location and history of the building. Won't be staying here again.

We stayed at the Star hotel during a week end visit for the football.
Arrived early so parked car in private car park £4 a day then explored area until we could check in.
On check in it is not the most modern hotel and yes the front of the hotel does need a lick of paint, but apart from that all was fine. Check in was easy and paid any outstanding fees including parking on check in. We were then allocated room on third floor.
We was very pleasantly surprised. Our room was great. All nicely decorated with pine bed , side tables and wardrobe. Ensuite with shower. All very nice and very clean. No view from window.
Had breakfast which was a buffet help yourself breakfast, very nice and plenty to eat.
Located right on the high street near all the shops and near many nice bars and restaurants .
Can't beleave previous bad reviews, we thought hotel was fine and perfect for what we needed and would definitely stay again.

Comfy bed, good breakfast
V dirty bedroom, not enough toilet roll! TV not working, lights not working, stained walls, hotel v shabby everywhere. No recommend and never going again. You can hear the next room using the toilets.

Room Tip: Do not have any sorry as only stayed in one room that was not up to any standard
