We went during half term and were met by a friendly lady. However, this was the only time we encountered staff, as they seemed to stay in reception, rather than venture out to check the site, as happens at other C & C Club Sites. We had no problems with noise or rowdiness and slept well.
However, the downside, and it really was a problem, were the showers. These all share a running footwell under the individual doors, that allows the dirty water to drain away. I had just finished my shower, only to find myself suddenly standing in the dirty water draining away from the lady showering next door. I found this to be a horrible experience, and put me off completely. There was a mop in the shower room, but this looked absolutely rank, and was not an appealing prospect!
My teenagers only wanted to use these facilities under pressure, and considering my son of 15 happily showers at home in the morning AND at night, and is currently going through a fastidious phase, you can imagine how bad the showers must have been for him to prefer having a strip wash in the caravan!
I could heartily recommend this site to those who love being close to nature, but only if you want to use your own facilities. For those camping, it would feel like a long stay without a clean shower!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Holmsley is a campsite steeped in history. Occupying part of what used to be Holmsley Airfield in the Second World War, it is one of 12 wartime airfields and Advanced Landing Grounds in the New Forest. Indeed, the aircraft hard standings and taxiways are now the campsite roads and parking spots! The campsite is close to the rural villages of Burley and Bransgore, with shops including a bakery, chemist, and chip shop. The site is predominantly grass, meaning there is a lot of space for the children to play. It also offers direct access to forest walks and safe cycling tracks; ideal for exploring the local flora and fauna with the whole family. Onsite there is a fully equipped shop that sells a wide range of groceries, camping essentials and games to ensure that your holiday runs as smoothly as possible. There is also an excellent take away; perfect after a busy day exploring the forest and when you want to put your feet up in your tent and relax. Opening time will vary throughout the season. This campsite offers both hardstanding and grass pitches with the opportunity for electric hook-up. There are also toilets and wash facilities available on site. ... more less
