I was worried about using this campsite after reading the reviews on here. Stayed for the weekend, staff lovely, facilities are clean & warm, lots of space, easy access to the new forest. Don't listen to the negative comments.

Room Tip: Bring a strong person to knock in the pegs! It's very stoney

We had a very good stay at Holmsley and enjoyed learning about the World War 2 history of the site ( it was an airfield) on the information boards there. There are some cycle rides to some of the best locations I have seen in the New Forest National Park.
Given the location near to some nice beaches, it is unsurprisingly popular and this overuse makes Holmsley campsite less than ideal. The toilet/shower block we used was poorly maintained and our 'Premium Grass Pitch' was mostly dust and stones.

The staff are helpful making Holmsley Campsite a place to stay a few days, especially if you can go midweek.

Room Tip: I suggest that tent campers look for pitches in some of the outlying areas of the site where the gr...

Went down to this site just after the bank holiday so perhaps a little quieter than some other reviews mentioned. We chose this site because it allows groups and we were three families who all wanted to pitch close together and for some reason many campsites don't seem to like this.

It is not our first visit to this site so we pretty much knew what to expect but were a little concerned with some of the more recent reviews which made it sound dreadful. We needn't have worried, sure there are children on bikes but it is a family campsite so only to be expected and we were never troubled with noise as after 10pm people know it needs to be quiet. Facilities are clean and I never had to queue for a shower.

It is a friendly campsite with loads of kids running, playing and generally having fun, all mine loved it and we will return in the future. I suspect if you don't have children or are looking for a peaceful campsite this will not tick your boxes.

Room Tip: The ground is very hard - a rubber mallet will never work!

Was a little worried about some reviews I had read before going but I needn't have been. The site and facilities were fantastic. Fully booked but still loads of room and kids enjoyed a little bit of freedom. Can't wait to go back

We stayed at Holmsley midweek, leaving just before the hectic August bank holiday weekend.

When checking in the camp assistant was really helpful in finding us a flat pitch for a tent, fairly close to the toilet block because we had 3 children with us. The pitch itself was relatively flat, altough a little stoney (head the advice on the website and bring your rock pegs, the ground is quite hard and could wreck normal pegs!) and we had a good view across the campsite so that we could keep an eye on the kids as they used their scooters to their hearts content.

The kids loved the fact that the entrance to the site was constantly "guarded" by ponies, sometimes a few, often a whole heard of them. So be prepared to be patient as they do not seem in a hurry to get out of the way as you wiggle your way slowly through!!

On the whole this is a good site, decent facilities with ample toilets, showers and sinks. Kids will love riding their scooters or bikes along the old runways and there is also a small playpark to keep them entertained.

If you are looking for cheap entertainment for the kids head to Mudeford Quay for an afternoon's crabbing. You can buy a bag of fishy offcuts to use as bait from the shop on the quay for £1 and its a crabby feeding frenzie when the tide is at its highest between the hours of 2:00 and 4:00.

Just home from great weekend at Holmsley, arrived on Thursday and got great pitch for 3 large tents altogether. Left Monday and no pressure to leave. Most of the staff were OK, Simon on the gate could do with learning to smile and maybe not being quite so aggressive towards arrivals, first impressions? But the staff star for us was Si who was so friendly and helpful (he had bandage on his wrist), he sorted out a problem we had and even popped round on his bike the next day to make sure we were all happy - thanks Si. There were a lot of children riding around unsupervised but that is what camping holidays are all about, just had to be a bit careful. Loos and showers were OK, had to 'q' at peak times but think you have to expect it with such a large site with reasonable rates. Thanks for a great weekend and the sunshine.

We arrived on a Saturday morning, 1 camper 2 tents, with our grown up children and their friends, the site was fairly busy but not excessive, the weather was good we stayed 4 nights. You can explore well from here we went to brockenhurst,Burley, Lymington, Christchurch as well as walking in the forest, the staff are friendly the, chop is a good addition and reasonably priced. All in all would well recommend. Ps we had no noise issues while we were here.
