We spent the bank holiday weekend there. Thought the campsite was very good. The shower/ wc block was well maintained and kept clean. The site was well maintained.

Kids loved the horses wondering around the site.
Well worth a visit next year

August bank holiday, going camping in the new forest!
What was I thinking?
My fears of overcrowded, noisey parties, screaming kids and general annoyance couldn't have been further from the truth.
This site is lovely, well run and quiet, we arrived early in the morning to a full site and found a perfect pitch within ten minutes.
We had never been before to ashurst so had no preconceptions and luckily the pitch was the opposite side to the train tracks so we didn't hear a single train.
The fellow campers were very kind and helped us with our tent as well as being friendly throughout our stay.

The staff were NOT rude, Infact quite the opposite helping us and being polite whenever we came into contact.

Will definitely be coming back.

As for the negative reviews if you read the rules (shocking as this may be to some) it clearly outlines everything that people seem to be having problems with.

This is a quiet peaceful site so use your noddle.

Excellent camp site spoiled by trains running continually through night. Kids loved ponies walking through . Rules were fine and needed for some campers that show no respect for where they are. Showers hot but sometimes bit of queue, so what , have a brew and come back in 15 minutes. Can't understand why stay in beautifull site then create your own castle by putting up tents in circle surrounded by wind breaks ! Good option to get close too nature but with facilities

We have just got back from a weekend at Ashurst. Upon our arrival we were greeted by wild ponies and friendly, helpful staff. You can pitch where you want, either on open grass or near bushes or trees. There is a large shower block in the center with toilets, lockable sink cubicles and showers, these were always clean. Also there is a large washing up room with big sinks and lots of hot water. Staff regularly go round the site picking up litter and checking everyone is happy, but everyone was friendly and helpful.
There is a pub/restaurant with a great play area just to the right of the entrance of the site and Ashurst village with take-a-ways is a short walk away.
We hired bikes via Trax (leaflet was in the reception of the site), who deliver and collect to the site. There are plenty of woodland walks directly from the campsite.
Ponies roan free throughout the whole site and come right up to the tents. The site is very quiet at night, all the guest stick to the 'quiet after 10pm request', neither the road or the railway bothered me - but I would imagine if you are camped right by the train track you would hear them.

Room Tip: Avoid the railway lines.

My friends and i booked a weekend visit to the site, as we have done over the years, Friday 16th and we left sunday 18th at 12 O'clock, we were warned about the 3 metre distance between tents which is the standard practice, we were aware of the fact there was families there, so no course language on site, we made a concerned effort to move out the site to go into the forest so not to upset anyone, we are all in are 30's and understand the concept of keeping our plot clean, we were accused of making problems on site, we were told that off duty police officers complained about us which makes no sense, a friend of mine and i out of the group are full time carers to family members and this was are only short get away for the year, i am very disapointed, my female friends are very upset that they were told off for making noises which is absolute tosh, there was a patch with 20 year old men making noise and kicking footballs around but no one said anything about it, i am not happy, i love the area and the sites.

I only manage to get away from my caring duties for a few days a year and this year, I decided to stay at this lovely looking site with a few friends.
There was only one problem........the staff are the most rude, nasty, horrible people I have ever met on any campsite in my 15 annual trips to various new forest sites. (We ended up calling them the forest police)
All members of staff, and I really hope you read this, should be ashamed of yourselves!!!
A previous rater summed it up perfectly when they said it was like a military camp!!
NO FUN ALLOWED AFTER 8pm
Wouldn't go there again if you paid me!

Its been a while since I've stayed on a "commercial" campsite, so I don't have a lot to compare to.

However this site seemed to be well run, The facilities were good with clean shower and toilet blocks and we didn't have to queue for them even in the morning, though we were up quite early.

The campsite was very quiet after 10 at night and there seemed to be no trouble with noise as far as I could tell.

Only quibble I had was that initially we pitched our tent on an "out of bounds" area - it really wasn't that clear from the signs that it was out of bounds. We ended up having to take it down and re-pitch in a different place, which as you can imagine was a pain. So some clearer signage as to which areas you can/can't pitch might be useful.
