Thus place is nice to stay in, the room was very clean a comfortable.
I felt that it was lacking in homeliness and warmth. The hosts were friendly but only as I was checking out, not a great welcome
However I would stay again, as I now know what to expect.

We visit Southampton regularly to keep up with family and friends there, we needed a reliable guest house convenient for the Central Station.
There are plenty of places in the Hill Lane area, but precisely because of their location they tend to cater for business people so they are efficient, functional, characterless, rather than a welcoming home from home.
We tried Hunters Lodge this year, it was just what we needed, it will be our regular booking in future! It's just a lovely place - comfortable, welcoming, relaxed. The owners are nicely laid-back and excellent company.
Our room was large, quiet, comfortable, spotlessly clean, well furnished and equipped. A big plus - there was masses of storage space! A big wardrobe, two big chests of drawers as well as bedside cupboards.
Generous sized bottles of shampoo and shower gel, lots of lovely cookies with the tea and coffee making, a good television.
Breakfast is individually cooked for each table, plenty for our appetites, and delicious. There was a good selection of cereals, fruit, juices, yogurts etc. NB It is included in the room price so long as you book direct with the owners.
The possible disadvantages at Hunters Lodge are as some people have commented on - it takes a couple of minutes for the shower to run hot, and the individually cooked breakfasts obviously don't appear instantaneously. Something to be aware of if you are likely to be in a rush to get out, no problem otherwise.
We are looking forward to going back.

Room Tip: Book direct with the owners for breakfast to be included in the room price

We have stayed here for the past 3 years and although it is a 30 min walk to the centre of the city it is all downhill and you can get a cab back. Steep stairs and the towels could be a little thicker. Be careful in the shower as the floor is a little slippery but other than those comments it is a great to stay and Roddy and Jihea are excellent hosts. English breakfast is very good.

Room Tip: Cab fare to city abou 5 pounds

Stayed here for three nights on business. Clean room, comfy bed, good breakfast and friendly hosts. Standard breakfast is quite small but if you ask for extra its no problem. I had only two issues here. One was that the shower was very weak and took an age to warm up. It was also starting to come away from the wall. The other was the tv remote initially didn't work. I suspected flat batteries and went to see the Landlord. The batteries were replaced with ones from 'the drawer' which were not new. The remote worked for about ten minutes before the batteries died. Not wanting to bother my host again I left a note on the remote to let housekeeping know it wasn't working. Nothing was done. Probably still isn't working now.
