“friendly small family hotel”
Reviewed 11 June 2012

This hotel is convenient for us to stay in when we are visiting family, just a few roads away. We had a family room at the front of the hotel, which had a nice sitting area in the window. It was plenty big enough for our two boys aged 13 and 9 to share a room with us and they each had a proper bed. We find that sofa beds in most family rooms, just don't work that well anymore, and it gets expensive when you have to book connecting rooms. The breakfast was delicious and very generous and I regret asking for the full English, as I couldn't finish it all. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and attentive. The car park was quite full but we did find a place around the back, I think they were fully booked as it was the Jubilee weekend. There are plenty of pubs and places to eat in the area, though we didn't try any of them. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again for the location close to family, but for weekends away we normally book somewhere with a pool, which let's face it you aren't going to get in central Southampton unless you go to the De Vere.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back may be a little quieter

Couldn't rate the Elizabeth House Hotel highly enough; caters very well for visitors to the area not least pre-cruise passengers like us. Parking charge very reasonable, area pleasant and feels 'safe' to leave a vehicle. Located near the common with nice walks and a decent pub, serving nice food close by although the Elizabeth House does cater for an evening meal Mon - Fri.

Rooms comfortable with all you need - free Wi Fi!!. The large chains should learn from this. It was so much appreciated as we had some serious last minute booking difficulties to sort out. This Wi Fi access 'saved the day' for our cruise so a big thank you to Elizabeth House. We don't normally buy Wi Fi access on our travels - why should you have to we think but are grateful for the modern convenience.

Great breakfast served by friendly and professional staff.

We'll definitely be back as good access to northbound routes, all be it a short taxi ride from Ocean Terminal [£6.50 taxi].

Room Tip: You may need some help if you require a heavy case up the step or two into Room 27

Attended this hotel for a small reception with drinks and hot buffet. Staff service and attention was excellent; they were polite and nothing was too much trouble The range and quality of the food was superb. Most interesting, varied and tasty buffet we have experienced! We were not the hosts but understand that the cost was quite reasonable.

My wife and I stayed here a couple of weeks ago, after reading a number of reviews of different places. We found the staff friendly and helpful, the whole place spotlessly clean, and plenty of hot water in the bathroom. The breakfast was very nice, especially the poached haddock with poached eggs I had one morning.

The only negative point one could make is that (in our room at least) the wallpaper and carpet were a bit elderly looking; this didn't bother us in the slightest, though it might some.

The buses into Southampton are across one road, and to the airport or Winchester across the main road. The buses in Southampton are a little confusing at first, since they have at least three buses companies, with duplicate numbers.

Should we need to stay in Southampton again, we'd definitely try the Elizabeth House first.

Stayed one night in May with my wife and adult daughter. Staff really friendly, hotel really clean, breakfast really good, and excellent place to stay in Southampton, dog friendly too and close to the common for dog walks. No problem with noise, a really convenient location although probably not the smartest are of town.

Very clean room, well furnished (including a decent desk), very comfortable bed, fairly good WiFi included. Nice bathroom too. Good breakfast.

Conveniently located on a main bus route between the central train station and the university (also buses to the airport).

We spent 7 nights at this hotel in March 2012 while attending a conference, and doing a bit of sightseeing. We actually stayed here a year ago for a few nights as well. We found the rooms to be comfortable and quiet. The family run hotel has friendly helpful service, and we thought the breakfast was terrific. Because we were there to work with folks at the University Avenue campus, the location was very convenient. It's a bit of a walk to downtown if that's your goal, but there are a couple of good restaurants close by - particularly Dock of the Bay right across the street.
