Stayed for 2 nights last weekend , myself husband, daughter and the dog, my daughter had a planned open day at the Solent uni and we like to bring our dog when we go anywhere,so it was a bonus being able to do this.
After a long journey we actually arrived quite early but were made to feel welcome and given coffee & biscuits In the reception, within ten minutes our room was ready
We stayed in the separate house adjacent to main hotel , large spacious room ,double bed & full sized single, not a put me up
Although a little tired decor wise and only 1 sash window that opened (hot weekend),everything needed was in the room, beds were comfy & clean , pillows. Need replacing as very flat.
Breakfast was excellent and very fast , unfortunately " lizzies" restaurant & bar downstairs doesn't open at weekends so we had to eat out which was difficult with the dog but we found a nice pub "the cow heard" just up the road on the edge of the common where we could sit outside and eat
Staff at the Elizabeth are very very helpful & pleasant nothing is too much trouble and the location is spit on for Southampton only a 15 min walk if you don't want to drive into the city ( parking's a nightmare)
All in all we had a lovely stay and will come back again hopefully next year

Merits much more than 2* . We were staying prior to cruising and had a great experience. The room was large, very clean and everyone was very helpful. There were toiletries included and the room was comfortable. It was very convenient for the airport and the port and the breakfast was a high quality with very efficient and friendly service. It was a pleasant change from the rugby scrum in the big hotels. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Our room was next to reception but we didn't have much noise from that. Our only comment was the...

We stayed here for two nights prior to our cruise and were so glad we did. We usually stay in Grand Harbour when in Southampton but will be staying at the Elizabeth in future.
Our room was beautifully decorated and the bathroom was very modern. Both were spotless. The bay window in the bedroom gave in so much light. The bed was king sized and comfortable. The room also had two decent chairs and a table. The flat screen TV was on the wall. Wi fi was fast and free, the owners will give you a separate password for each device. The room was warm so I asked for a fan and the owners took one to my room within a few minutes.
The owners were very hands on, if they weren't serving you breakfast they were in the reception area.
The breakfast room was large and bright. Hubbie loved his full British whereas I had perfect poached eggs one day and slightly over cooked scrambled eggs the next. They did not skimp on toast or ant food for that matter. Their breakfast certainly set you up for the day.
They have a bar that serves snacks all day and meals in the evening but it is only open Monday to Friday. We dined there on the Friday. A lot off the food on the menu was not available so we both settled for steak pie. I was worried that it would be shortcrust pastry as we are used to puff pastry pies in Scotland. It was puff pastry with the most tenderest meat that I've tasted inside. The pie was very big, one could have served two so do not order a starter. We waited 30-45 mins for our meal as it was cooked to order. The veg was fresh not frozen. The food was worth the wait. You can also have the food delivered to your room at no extra cost.
Unlike other hotels in the centre of Southampton you do not pay for parking when staying there. We left our car for the week we were cruising and even with adding the return taxi fare it still worked out lots cheaper than parking at the port.
The hotel is on a bus route and only takes 5mins or so to take you into West Quay shopping centre.
If you are looking for a great inexpensive hotel then look no further than the Elizabeth.

Stayed here when visiting the university. This place is a very friendly local hotel, and if you are arent looking for big hotel with all the trimmings right in the town centre, then this place is brilliant. I would highly recommend it, and will definitely use it again.

Staff: The staff are extremely friendly and very helpful (they even picked up my car key and closed my car window for me, when I was stuck in my room with sleeping child, and brought the key back - so grateful).

Rooms: The hotel doesnt look special from the Avenue, but the rooms have been very nicely renovated; very clean, lovely bathroom, big shower heads, flatscreen tvs, wifi everywhere. If you sleep lightly, then maybe a rear facing room is further from the main road.

Breakfast: awesome. Lots of cereals, yogs, juices, etc, and then a big offering of cooked breakfast: bacon, eggs, sausage, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, etc.

Location: its great for visiting people who live around the Common, or visiting the university. Its also very close to town, being on the main Avenue into town. Also very near to Portswood and London road, for some bars etc if you want them.

Overall, would highly recommend and would stay there again. Great for anyone, unless you'll be disappointed that its not a chain hotel with a pool.

Room Tip: Rear facing rooms are probably less noisy from the main road. But it didnt stop us sleeping.

We stayed here for one night before our cruise and also left our car here for a week. We were greeted on arrival and efficiently checked in. Our room was at the back of the hotel and although very clean and had tea and coffee making facilities and flat screen t.v., it was a little tired around the edges but as it is a two star hotel, it is absolutely fine. The bed was very clean and comfortable and of a good size. Plenty of hot water. The one thing that let the room down was the fact that every step taken, the floor creaked big time. The owner apologised when I mentioned it but I would imagine it would be expensive to fix and thats why it hasnt been done. The room was very quiet - would be concerned if I had a front bedroom as its on a very busy main road. However, this is also a benefit as the hotel is very easy to find. The breakfast was exceptional - nothing was too much trouble - plenty of everything and as soon as you have finished, your things were taken away. Very friendly and efficient staff. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it.

We stayed here on the Saturday 3rd May and our room was ready early for which was great. We stay and leave our car for the duration of a cruise which is usually 3 weeks but was only 4 days this time.We found a space at the front and this was ok for the duration. Brett the owner is very welcoming as was the receptionist we dealt with.We had a lovely ground floor room No 32 in the adjacent building to the main hotel. The rooms in this building have recently been refurbished and are superb,we will ask for this again. We had a good breakfast which was everything you could wish for, freshly cooked and good quality ingredients. We are retired hoteliers so you have expectations and the Elizabeth House Hotel fulfills in every way.On our return the receptionist was out as soon as the taxi arrived outside to welcome us back.Would certainly recommend especially for cruise stay and park.

Room Tip: No 31 and 32 are very good and also rooms in main hotel.
