“Excellent Value, do everything right”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2012

The Blue Keys provides excellent value for money. Its not a 5 star hotel, but it does the basics really well. There is free wifi, the bedrooms are clean, large enough, and with comfortable beds. The bathrooms are clean, with really excellent powerful showers. The staff are always extremely helpful, genuinely friendly and happy to help in any way they can. The food is also really good, and cooked from scratch. The continental breakfast is especially nice. I honestly can't complain about anything here, and for value for money you can't go far wrong with this place.

Hotel very good, clean and only short walk to the city centre, all the staff are very friendly and the rooms are clean and comfortable, could have done with a bath instead of a shower but all kept very clean, would recommend this hotel to anyone

We have no major complaints about our recent four night stay. It would have been nice to have clean towels, especially when the wet ones were left on the floor but they were just picked up and hung on the heated towel rack. Everyone we dealt with was very accommodating. The price was certainly reasonable and if we ever end up back in Southampton, we would certainly consider staying here again.
The reason for my title is that I had looked at MANY reviews from as far back as 2010, I believe, but Becky & Elliott only purchased this establishment the end of May 2012.

Room Tip: Rooms are on the second and third floors, with no elevator. If you have issues with climbing stairs...

This place is average but that doesn't have to be a negative. It's a pub with rooms over it. Live entertainment/loud music at night and the pub is packed and can be rowdy. The building itself looks good and is clean. Room was fine, shower a little low, good place to rest your head. We used it before we went on a cruise as the hotels down at the actual port are not too safe for parking your car with a lot of vandals in that particular area.
Good value for money.

We booked the Blue Keys after checking it on "TripAdvisor", and we were not disappointed after our initial concerns with the "under new management" sign were swiftly kicked into touch by our enthusiastic welcome from the new owner.
Our room was nicely decorated, we had a top quality evening meal and a bottle of wine for £15 per head.
Breakfast was a little expensive, but lovely sausages!

We stayed here for a couple of nights as we wanted to see some of the new forest and this place was good value and ideal as a base.

We were upgraded to room 1 by Becky upon arrival as our original room was set out as a twin, not a double. Room was nice and spacious and very clean & bright.

Breakfast was good and Elliott made the effort to make me a decent Egg's Benedict which was great.

Overall, very good value and I would stay here again without hesitation.

I stayed here overnight as I was on a business training course at the Novatel. This hotel was only a short drive away. Having read that the owners were updating the place I wondered what to expect. The place is newly and tastefully decorated. I stayed in a good sized single room with ensuite. It was spotless, the bed was comfy, the shower was large and powerful with plenty of hot water, the tv had Freeview with enough channels. I had room 5 at the back of the hotel and it was quiet.
As I was a female travelling alone I didn't want to venture out so I had dinner downstairs. I sat in the area at the back of the bar which wasnt busy and Gary the barman was very helpful. He even realised the music was too loud without being told and turned it down before I could say anything.
The meal was very good, the portions were plentiful, the variety of menu made my choices difficult! Elliott was also the chef and came out personally to check that everything was ok with my meal.
Continental breakfast was included in the price I paid and was also good. I would definitely stay here again.
It's not easy taking over a business like this but all the hard work is paying off. I was made to feel very welcome and safe and I wish Elliott and Becky all the best.

Room Tip: Rooms 5 is a great sized single with ensuite The fig and pistachio homemade dessert is definitely w...
