Stayed here for a weekend break with my partner. The first night we enjoyed a meal at the resturaunt. Room was good, was on an upper floor overlooking the Solent and the Isle of Wight ferry terminal. Room was clean, bed was comfortable. Did not have any issues with noise. Shower was good, we would stay at this hotel again.

Normally stay around the Solent to catch the ferry to France, so it was time to try the hotels in Southampton. The hotel would appear to make a major part of its income from cars parked for cruise passangers, so the car parks at the hotel are always full. We found the hotel to be very good, we had a view over the docks from the seventh floor, better than a view out on the docks from the back of the hotel. Food was good and not to expensive We had only had one problem.I am disabled which means I tend to look at hotels with a differnt outlook. Car parking was excellent ,about six blue badge parking spots, just outside the main access route, although two were occupied by non-blue badge holders. Reception that was a different story, when we arrived at the reception desk , one receptionist who was dealing with a couple who wanted to leave there car during their cruise-- it took a little under a quarter of an hour for this receptionist to deal with them. We were second in a queue ever growing , think it was about seven by the time receptionist had gone very slowly through her booking. I have problems standing for very long, in the time waiting I looked for a chair, none.!. My turn was a much quicker affair, I cut her short on every long winded action, it took a much shorter time. This proved the longest checking in, ever. Never again!

Room Tip: Pick a room with a view at the front!

The building is pretty unispiring as a rather ugly concrete tower, however the advantage is that if you are high up and facing the right way you do get excekllent views over the Solent and Cruise liner terminus. That said, the clientelle seems to be pre/post cruise passengers, visitors/participants at the numerous trade shows held in Southampton and large groups of engineers on longer term contract work. The rooms are more than adequate but I do think that charging for wifi in the rooms is totally unnecessary in this day and age where every other pub or coffe house provide the service for free. TV selection is good, the food (for breakfast) was pleantiful but the public areas downstairs are a bit souless as the same space is the lounge, restaurant and bar. There is an excellent gym just across the car park which is free for guests and has a well equipped gym room and a very nice pool. The area is also very convenient for running or walking and the town centre is a very accessible short walk away.

This would not be my first choice for a holiday but for business it is very convenient (it also has air conditioning which other rival hotels dont). It wont win any asthetics or architectural prizes and the rooms clearly work hard and the place could do with a refresh. That said, it is conveniently located and the staff work hard to make the difference matter.

Room Tip: There is free bus service from the station (which connects to the airport) which runs to the Red Fun...

This hotel is so close to the cruise terminals, it almost seems like the ship moor in the hotel car park. Rooms spacious & clean. The buffet breakfast was really good, plenty of choices, a great start to our holiday. Would definitely stay here again prior to cruising.

Stayed here before a recent Cruise. Good location, short taxi ride from the terminals and only a 10 minute walk to the main shopping area in Southampton. Staff were very good, hotel is not bad, not the most modern you will stay in, but comfortable. Main gripes were food expensive and not that good and you have to pay for internet. Make sure you check the different packages available and look at what they offer (breakfast costs £16 each!!!). We booked the bed and breakfast, 21 days parking and taxi offer, which cost about £10 more than the bed and 8 days parking. No problems with car when we returned.

Stayed here again for one night pre cruise. We like rooms with a view and so high floor rooms facing west have a great view over the City to Mayflower cruise terminals. Nice to see the ship movements. Room was, as usual, clean and convenient with decent facilities. We opted for the bed, breakfast & dinner package - the dinner is a "set menu" with a choice of certain dishes marked with an "S" on the menu. However, you can not swap dishes EVEN IF they are the same price, instead it will cost you £2.50 extra. So you can pay £2.50 for a dish that is market at the same price or a dish that costs £6.00 more - I just don't understand the logic. That said, we had a really nice rib eye steak. After a good nights sleep the breakfast buffet was as good as usual. We will certainly return despite the silly set menu rules!!

Room Tip: High rooms have a great view.

The hotel is an older 9 story high rise across the street from the water/port area. The inside of the hotel is well kept and recently upgraded. The staff was friendly especially during a very busy time period. Unlike other Holiday Inns in the UK, they charge for internet..........even for high usage clients.
