“Fine for an Overnight Stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2013

When booking we requested a high level room with a view but were allocated a room on the 2nd floor. The room was spotlessly clean but small. The constant hum from the extractor fan in the bathroom which would not go off was anonying.

There is a wide choice at the buffet breakfast, unfortunately hot food was only luke warm.

There are two small elevators which are unfortunately in-adequate for the size of the hotel. This was especially noticeable between 9.00am and 10.45am when we had a considerable wait to be able to use one to get our luggage down to the reception.

The staff are friendly, professional and courteous.

On arrival guests are greeted to the sound of blaring music both outside and in the reception area.

The hotel is convenient to the cruise terminals and it is only a short walk into the centre of the city.

The hotel is adequate for a one night stay.

My partner and I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Southampton prior to taking a cruise to Norway and Spitsbergen. We stayed only one night but found the room comfortable although it could have been cleaner. As it was cruise season the hotel was quite busy but the staff was mostly helpful and pleasant. We booked in late March and therefore received the "Book Early and Save Rate with Breakfast" rate which was 89 GBP per night, about half what they were charging when we actually stayed in late June. The breakfast is quite worth getting as it is a buffet offering a full English breakfast and was quite good.

The room is basic, a fair size for England but as I mentioned, could have been cleaner. We stayed in room 411 and had a view of the parking lot and the City Dock so at least we could see the cruise ships and the water. As we booked a double bed executive room, we were supplied with two bottled waters, robes and chocolates. Don't expect the chocolates to be a box of assorted chocolates, in our case they were Kit Kay Chunky bars which were actually pretty tasty. The room also included an electric kettle for freeze dried coffee in the morning.

The biggest problem we had was not really the fault of the hotel but they bear some responsibility. They suggested we book a taxi to the Mayflower Cruise Terminal the following day and we asked for a taxi at 11:30 am. When we checked out they informed us that the taxis were running behind by about ten minutes. We waited over an hour past our time as did many other guests. It was all poorly organized and they did not seem to keep in contact with the taxi company they dealt with. Due to limited availability it wasn't just the matter of calling another cab.

All and all, the hotel was fine for a pre-cruise night and should we take another cruise out of Southampton, I would certainly consider staying again. Just remember to book early and to get a rate that included their delicious breakfast.

Dear K2Travels,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our property. We are glad you liked the breakfast selections we offer and found our staff to be helpful and pleasant. We would like to apologize for the experience you had while waiting for a cab and the service you received was less than satisfactory. We are hospitality professionals who pride ourselves on delivering world class service. For that reason, the comments are troubling and will certainly be looked into. Thank you for staying and we hope you give us another chance to make your stay as best as it can be.

Sincerely,

We stayed for one night pre-cruise on the 15 day stay and park deal. Very speedy check in by polite, friendly reception staff. Our room on the 6th floor overlooked the port and had lovely views of the cruise ships arriving. The room was spacious, clean and had a powerful shower. Beds were extremely comfortable with a choice of pillow types. Breakfast was the standard buffet. The Royal Caribbean dock was a 5 minute walk so taxi is not necessary.

However there were a couple of negatives:

Wifi is ridiculously expensive (IIR £16 for 24 hours)- wifi is a necessity these days not a luxury.
Our package included a free taxi to the port which we booked for 11am the night before. In the morning the reception area and areas outside were packed with people waiting for taxis and was very disorganised. The reception staff were not helpful and there was no staff to co-ordinate the arriving taxis (you couldn't hear the names being called). By 11.35am we decided to walk as I was curtly told by a receptionist that the taxis were running 45minutes late as "the port is very busy with 5 ships in". Now I might be unrealistic in my expectations but surely the hotel staff have experienced busy days before and could have advised me the night before to book the taxi for an earlier time (we were meeting friends at 11.15am). As it turned out it was a very easy 5 minute walk, even with luggage.
Overall I would recommend this hotel but I would suggest avoiding the taxis and just walk.

Stayed July 2013 pre cruise, reception excellent and informative, room a good size and well appointed. We just had a bar meal and a few drinks and here the staff really excelled with the most friendly attitude. We left car in car park, good value and just a fiver taxi fare to Ocean Cruise Terminal, other terminals probably walkable. If have further cruises from Southampton will return.

Room Tip: Reception ask which cruise ship you are boarding and will give you a room with a view of the ship.

This is our 4th time here and its just as great as the last time.
Arrived at 2-30pm from the north and check-in was speedy and efficient.
up too the room and we had a great view over the sea towards the isle of wight ferry, lovely and quiet up on the 8th floor.
We booked a meal in the restuarant and the food was excellent, fresh, delicious and the service speedy.
After a good nights sleep it was down for breakfast at 9-30am and there was plenty of room even though the hotel was full, plenty of hot and cold items.
Check out speedy and we where soon our our way to the port which is 5 mins away.

Room Tip: Rooms on a high floor and if you want to see your ship come in,then book a room with a cruise termin...

Stayed here for a weekend break with my partner. The first night we enjoyed a meal at the resturaunt. Room was good, was on an upper floor overlooking the Solent and the Isle of Wight ferry terminal. Room was clean, bed was comfortable. Did not have any issues with noise. Shower was good, we would stay at this hotel again.

Normally stay around the Solent to catch the ferry to France, so it was time to try the hotels in Southampton. The hotel would appear to make a major part of its income from cars parked for cruise passangers, so the car parks at the hotel are always full. We found the hotel to be very good, we had a view over the docks from the seventh floor, better than a view out on the docks from the back of the hotel. Food was good and not to expensive We had only had one problem.I am disabled which means I tend to look at hotels with a differnt outlook. Car parking was excellent ,about six blue badge parking spots, just outside the main access route, although two were occupied by non-blue badge holders. Reception that was a different story, when we arrived at the reception desk , one receptionist who was dealing with a couple who wanted to leave there car during their cruise-- it took a little under a quarter of an hour for this receptionist to deal with them. We were second in a queue ever growing , think it was about seven by the time receptionist had gone very slowly through her booking. I have problems standing for very long, in the time waiting I looked for a chair, none.!. My turn was a much quicker affair, I cut her short on every long winded action, it took a much shorter time. This proved the longest checking in, ever. Never again!

Room Tip: Pick a room with a view at the front!
