We used the excellent cruise and park package to avoid any travel problems. A good move, the next morning Southampton was gridlocked with traffic jams. A very pleasant hotel with wonderful views from our room. Staff were very friendly and helpful and meals were fine. The drop off and collection from the cruise all worked well,

Our fourth visit to this hotel was a little disappointing. Previously we have no complaints at all and we can still appreciate the wonderful location, the friendly helpful staff, and the comfort in the rooms. This time however we were particularly disappointed on the first morning with the hot breakfast which was at best tepid and not at all apetising. The following morning we opted for poached eggs on toast which came direct from the chef and were perfect. The cold buffet however, was extensive and very good. Dinner was good but a bit on the expensive side. A major problem was that unfortunately we stayed on one of the worst nights with a gale blowing off the sea and our window in room 604 suddenly developed a loud cracking noise coming from the window opening mechanism with the result that sleep was impossible. We went down to reception at 1am to ask if we could move. The gentleman we saw was extremely helpful and gave us another room on the same floor at the rear of the building. We slept in this room and transferred all our gear the following morning. We will still stay again when in Southampton.

We used the Holiday Inn in Southampton 3 times, twice in 2013. In the summer the very bad experience at reception, amongst other things, resulted in us contacting IHG through their website. Our last stay was in the winter to avoid the possibility of the weather stopping us reaching the cruise terminal in time to board. Having had 2 bad stays we feared for the worst.

In the event, we were extremely well looked after. Reception were really helpful, the service in the bar was smooth even if the menu is a unappealing. The night was quiet. The level access to part of the restaurant was available.

Compared with some of the more modern properties in the chain, yes it is a bit tired. We were told the lifts were about to be renewed.

Would we stay there again? Quite likely because of the location. It is very easy to walk to the centre of the city. (Come out of the hotel, turn left to access the dual carriageway, turn left and a few minutes walk will bring you to a pedestrian crossing at some traffic lights,) The menu will be a factor.

Room Tip: The higher you go the quieter it becomes.

Another excellent stay at this very ideally located hotel. Had an executive room of our choice overlooking the sea. Really good choice on breakfast menu. Rooms clean and well stocked. Good secure car park. A must before you go on your cruise for an overnight stay with transfer to the ship. All the staff were very helpful to us and we will return.

Have stayed a number of times prior to a cruise and it is ideal, depending on price we either use this place or the Novotel just 2 minutes away.
Holiday inn is looking rather tired, bar and restaurant area are the best part, bedrooms really do need a modern facelift. Breakfast is very good with excellent service, bar service can be hit and miss depending on number of guests and time of day.
Think paying £7 to park car is appalling, we have already paid to stay at the hotel - not good!
Next stay is at Novotel, half the price for a pre cruise stay, at times this hotel charges way over what it is worth.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback. Our hotel is committed to providing our guests with the highest level of services and facilities. We sincerely regret we fell short of our goal in this instance.
There are several Cruise & Stay packages, together with Park Stay & Go programme, which can include parking, accommodation, transfers to the ship, breakfast. The prices differ and are reflective of current market rates which are competitive with other hotels in the city. I do hope that you will choose to stay here again in the future. In the meanwhile, thank you again for your comments and may I take this opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year,
Kind regards

Stayed here a few weeks ago as had a family gathering to go to.
What a brilliant place to stay. From the moment you arrive you feel welcome. The staff at reception were polite and efficient, the room immaculate. The ladies tending the bar were excellent and very chatty. We decided to have an early evening meal here and wasn't disappointed. All in all a great place to stay, staff get 10/10

My husband and I decided to book a Twixmas break in Southampton at the Holiday Inn as we had never been to Southampton before.

On arrival were were greeted by an extremely cheerful member of staff. We had booked an executive room and had asked for a room on a high floor. We were given the cards for a room on the eighth floor. The view was not quite as expected but we were soon shown alternative rooms and ended up with a room with the view expected.

The room, whilst very clean, was also very tired and in need of refurbishment. The fridge cabinet had a date of 1993 written on it. There was no fridge in the cabinet. The bed looked very old but was of a good size. The curtains had bits hanging down. We were expecting better, especially as we had paid extra for an executive room. Although the bathroom was small and could have also done with refurbishment it was very clean and the towels huge and fluffy It also a good heated towel rail. The shower was very powerful.. The views from from our room were excellent and we spent some time watching the ships and boats come and go.

We had booked on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. The staff were lovely, nothing too much trouble and the food was of a very good standard. The wine was a little pricey but very good.

Overall, we would stay again if in the area if only for the view, food and lovely staff, but our stay was definitely let down by the tired room. We have stayed in many Holiday Inns and realise that they cannot all be ultra modern but surely a little refurbishment when needed!
