“Brilliant pre Cruise Hotel!”
Reviewed 30 August 2008

We stayed at this hotel for one night before a cruise departing from the Mayflower terminal and it was absolutely ideal, only a few yards from the cruise baggage and check in and no worries about traffic. We had a room on the eighth floor and it was wonderful to open the curtains in the morning and see our ship waiting for us! The staff were all very friendly and the receptionists were very helpful. The Centre at West Quay is also very handy for shopping. We had dinner at the restaurant which was fine if a little busy because of all the pre-cruisers staying there! Breakfast was excellent, the room was very clean and bathroom well stocked. We would recommend the hotel especially if you are cruising from the Mayflower Terminal. If travelling without a car you won't need a taxi to the port as it is easy walking distance with your cases (as long as you don't have too many!)

Just back from a two night stay. My room was very spacious double bed, settee, Tea coffee making facilties, hairdryer, trouser press. Bathroom was clean but I thought it was looking a bit tired.

Check was very prompt , friendly staff. I had room service which was good and very prompt. Breakfast was nice for room service.

The hotel has a gym and pool across the carpark. It was small but good.

The hotel itself is right by the port, I'd a nice view of the city and the sea and the boats ( 5th floor). You can get around easily in Southampton lovely restaurants and good shopping and a good base to travel around.

Would recommend this hotel.

Stayed here 13th June for 1 night precruise for £70 b&b leisure break rate.
Called 2 days before and asked for a high floor looking over the port.
Arrived at 11:30am we were told our room was being cleaned and would be ready in around 30 mins so we decided to have a drink in the bar, about 15 mins later the receptionist called us over to say we could now check in when we were ready.

As requested we were on a high floor overlooking the port.(room 912)
Room was recently refurbished to the usual Holiday inn spec
(toiletry basket, tea/coffee etc.)
Breakfast was a bit chaotic as the hotel was full with a couple of coach trips and a wedding party who were all in b&b basis.
The staff were under pressure but very able to cope with such a large number of customers.
Bar staff on Friday night very friendly, prices usual hotel bit more expensive than outside but not over the top.

Will I stay here again ? Yes great value at £70 b&b for 2

Stayed for two nights while in Southampton for business. Have not previously stayed at Holiday Inns prior to this trip but was pleasantly surprised. Located opposite dock gate number 8, we had a view of the port and saw several cruise ships come in while we were there. This hotel is also located across the road from the Maritime Museum and the old city walls. The hotel itself was clean, looked like it had recently been renovated including rooms. No safe in the room but were able to use a safe downstairs at reception. There was a hairdryer in the room. Only thing we thought a bit odd was no information on the hotel itself, restaurant, room service etc. We had room service the first night and then used the hotel restaurant the second night, the food was fine, nothing to really rave about but still edible. Breakfast was really good. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Stayed here for work as I have done in the past. The hotel has a great location, just by the IofW ferry terminal and a waterside park and nearby the West Quay shopping centre.
My room had a brilliant room. Usual tea/coffee (but no biscuits), and OK toiletries including soap. Clean facilities and decent pool. Breakfast good.
All staff I encountered were helpful. Free newspaper in the morning.

I have stayed at this hotel before as its location is great for shopping and the Isle of Wight.

The hotel now has new furniture and the restaurant looks different too. I was told the lounge carpet is about to be changed and its about time too.

The staff are always helpful and friendly and service is what I would expect of Holiday Inn hotel.

I would definately stay here again - in general a friendly hotel with good service and facilities.

Stayed here on our anniversary for (thankfully) just one night before going on a celebratory cruise so I had looked for a reasonably priced hotel, a comfy room and a nice dinner.
At the time I was disabled by an accident & in a wheelchair as I couldn't walk far without pain. We were offerred a room for the disabled which was fine - bog standard Holiday Inn but bigger. The bathroom was huge but that was its only merit - obviously, the disabled don't do glamour! It was more like the NHS - stark, cold in both temperature and colour scheme - the latter being blue and white and totally at odds with the bedroom itself.
We had a bit of a laugh about it as I zoomed around in my "chair".
Then to dinner. In the restaurant we were put on the lower tier, away from all the fun people. The tiny table was slap bang up against a huge pillar and another couple with a wheelchair were so close we could have been sharing.
Since every other table was empty we asked to move. Things got no better. The waitress kept calling us "You guys" as in "Ready to order, you guys?" which, for some reason, made me feel cross. The menu sounded OK but when the food arrived I realised that maybe I had made an unfortunate choice with the grilled haloumi & oven roasted mediterranean vegetables. (Unfortunate as in inedible.) The arrival of my husband's food confirmed that one has to be careful here as his dish of the day hotpot was grim too. We consoled ourselves with a couple of drinks and went to bed. Next morning we faced the chaos that was called breakfast. We couldn't get out fast enough.
I'm ashamed to say we meekly paid up without a single complaint and hot footed it (by taxi, not wheelchair) to the cruise terminal.
We had a glorious time on the old QE2 and, yes, despite the wheelchair as my newest accessory, I did do glamour!

Seriously, though, if this is the way disabled people are expected to enjoy themselves I am only too thankful that my problem is on the mend.

All in all, a most unpleasant experience.

  • Liked — We could leave our car there whilst on holiday.
  • Disliked — The bathroom and the food.
