“Perfect if going on a cruise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 September 2009

We stayed one night with our 3 children before embarking on a cruise.
We found the staff friendly and efficient.
Perfect location if going on a cruise.
We arrived and did not feel like going out so we had dinner at the hotel.
Dinner and breakfast was good.
Rooms spacious and clean, would definitly go back and would recommend this
hotel.
Great value for money.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn the night before a cruise. Holiday Inn is right next door to Berth 101 - just a very short walk to the Dock Gate - great if you are sailing from there.
Having read the reviews I requested a room with a good view and got one - great as the hotel was full as 9 cruise ships sailed from Southampton that weekend and most hotels were full. We booked on a bed breakfast and evening meal basis. It is very central and there are lots of other places to eat but felt is was good value. We had a good room - I am in the Holiday Inn Premier Point scheme and must have been upgraded as got the towelling robe (much better than the one offered on the Queen Victoria) and chocolate. There is a facilitity to leave your luggage which is great if you have a late boarding and a noon checkout. We had an afternoon flight home and went back to the hotel to wait, they kindly looked after our luggage at no charge, when I gave proof that we had stayed there 3 nights before. That freed us up to go shopping. (Devere charge £10 a case to leave your luggage) The hotel is only over the road from the massive Quays Shopping Centre. It is also really handy for the Isle of Wight and Hythe Ferry. Great place to go if you enjoy watching massive ships negotiate in and out of Southampton. The staff are friendly and really helpful. Would certainly stay there again.

Hotel was relatively easy to find although sat nav first took us to the entrance to the docks.
We paid £25 for an executive upgrade, although effectively we paid £25 for a chocolate bar and use of dressing gown and slippers as rooms are exactly same size as basic rooms.
Apart from that its a great hotel, the staff are really helpful. There are great views from either side of the hotel. It was £5 in a taxi back to the hotel from Oxford Street after a night out.
Enjoyed Southampton and would stay at this hotel again.

Very good location for city & ferry, plenty of free car parking, much better after the long overdue refurb. Good breakfast. Ask for a room port facing-good views. No problem with noise even though the hotel was full. excellent leisure facilities. Will return

This Holiday inn is quite an old building however there has been a recent renovation of the public areas. The Reception staff found us great rooms with good views over the port. The room we had was very spacious and we were able to have guests visit us to chat and have coffee while enjoying the view. The hotel has a good location for pre cruise stops and the Island Ferries. The service for both dinner and Breakfast was excellent and it was nice to be recognised as a previuos visitor. I am confused by another reviewer as my experience was so very positive. Except the slow elevators.

This hotel is convenient to the cruise ship terminal, but that, and its restaurant, are the only good things to say about it. Our room was filthy, the bathroom was worse, and the plumbling was in need of repair. If you are a cruise ship passenger, you can do much better elsewhere.

We recently stayed one night here on a mid week break and thought it was a great hotel. The hotel is in an enviable location and check in was swift and welcoming. The room we had (1st floor) overlooked a car park/docks and had floor to ceiling windows which was lovely as the sunset was superb the night we were there. The room we had was very comfortable and spacious and had all that was needed (inc tea & coffee making facilities). The bathrooms are pretty dated but saying that, the rather antiquated looking shower was more powerful than most modern ones I've used! The hotel has a nice little bar which was perfect for a couple of pre dinner drinks! Many people were eating in the restaurant/bar but we wandered down the road to Frankie & Benneys (LeisureWorld Complex). Breakfast was great with lots of choice of hot/cold food. We went into the Old Town the next day and had a lovely stroll round the old walls/merchant house etc. Southampton actually has quite a lot of history to offer the visitor as well as some excellent shopping areas - it's just a pity most people only come to stay one night in a hotel pre cruise and never get to see the town!
