We stayed for three nights in October and were pleasently surprised. Don't be fooled by its exterior. Inside is clean smart and well presented. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food at the resaurant excellent and the service of a very high standard.

We flew into LHR from DEN and arrived at 1PM. I hired a private service to drive us to the hotel. It was money well spent 77 pounds. We arrived at the hotel and checked in. There were no luggage dollies to help with our luggage and it was a bit of a struggle to get us and the luggage to the room. The room was fine and had heavy curtains so we could take a nap. We walked to West Quay shopping mall and had dinner at Harry Darsden's fish and chips. It was a take out/food court place but it was excellent. We then walked to the ASDA store and bought gin, tonic and wine for the cruise. All these places are within walking distance of the hotel.

I made sure the gin and tonic was safe to drink on the cruise and we fell asleep soundly.

The next morning we had the breakfast buffer at the hotel and it was adequate but pricey. 13 pounds. Our ship was delayed arriving so after we dropped our bags at the cruise terminal we went back to the shopping mall. My wife shopped at the mall and IKEA which is next door. I sat in McDonalds and took advantage of the free WIFI to surf.

The hotel served our purposes very well.

Paid £99 per night, including breakfast, which seemed expensive at first. But when noting the rather captive cruise liner clientele I understood why Holiday Inn gets away with these slightly high charges. Staff in check in very efficient and pleasant, room was very clean and functional. The recently refurbished hotel bar and breakfast area were clean and functional. Breakfast was nothing special, usual standard buffet fare. Finding the hotel is easy and parking is a doddle. The hotel is also located within easy walking distance of Southampton main City centre. I would recommend to all business and leisure travellers.

The hotel is really not much to write home about but it has a central location by the port. My single room had nice views of the harbour. The furniture was less than pleasant with 2 stained chairs, a desk and a high chair, queen size bed was OK. Internet access was good. Bathroom small and dated but the shower in the bathtub was like a waterfall - fantastic! We had a meal in the restaurant in the evening, and although it took forever it was good when it finally arrived. I paid GBP 115 for the room and this included a traditional English breakfast buffet which was excellent. Staff was friendly throughout. I will definetely come back.

Got good deal including breakfast. good choice of food, although very busy, Kostas found us a table for 6 within minutes
1 twin room and 1 family room both clean and comfortable, with excellent views of cruise liners from windows.
Leisure centre pool fine for quick swim, across from hotel reception.
Very close to West Quay and Ikea
