My first visit to this hotel although I do use Holiday Inn's all over UK. This one is dated and my room was particuarly in need of some TLC. Bathrooms are too small at the expense of a overly large bedroom. TV was rubbish, old and poor channel selection.
Had room service meal as the bar area was full, again a disproportinate dining area and small bar.
Breakfast was the highlight of the stay, well organised and staff 'happy smily'
Reception staff need to learn how to smile though!
Not likely to return, plenty of other options in Southampton

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night in order to do some early Christmas shopping. The location you cannot fault, with easy walking access to West Quay/IKEA. For port users, whether it be for cruising or the IOW ferries, again it is very close and convenient.

The hotel reception is nice, warm and spacious. It took some time to check in due to only one member of staff working on the reception. We used our Priority Points so we were able to get a much reduced rate, and it is worth signing up to the loyalty scheme if you are regular HI users. We didn't do the breakfast as it is quite expensive, however you can get a £5 discount on breakfast if you pre-order at reception.

The hotel has a swimming pool, sauna, gym and hot tub across the car park which is free to guests and worth using.

The rooms however are a bit of a let down. They need some re-furbishing, with areas worn and tired. Our room had no working AC or not working enough so had to open the window for most of the night, however there was alot a road noise as a result. The bed was hard, and it wasn't a peaceful nights sleep ! The views of the port/harbour were good though.

I would recommend this hotel as a one night stay, as it is clean, however the rooms in my opinion do need a makeover.

The Holiday Inn Southampton is perfect if you're staying in Southampton the night before boarding a cruise.

It is within a short taxi drive from the QEII cruise terminal, within walking distance from the City terminal and again a short taxi drive from the new Ocean Terminal, meaning costs for transport are quite low!

The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable with in room internet (cable - for a fee). The rooms are quiet making for a good night sleep.

The real benefit here however is waking up in the morning and seeing your cruise ship waiting for you, it's a real thrill.

Stayed here one night at end of Sept before going on Queen mary 2. Our experience compared to some other reviewers was fine and for the price we paid good value. The room was clean and had all we needed for a night. Good views of the docks and we saw our ship very clearly.

I chose not to complete the official feedback forms for this hotel as I felt they would be put in the bin by the offhand reception staff. Customer service seems to be a concept that the staff do not appear to understand. On saying that , some of the restaurant waiting staff and Adam in the conference centre were exceptions to the rule. The reception staff were miserable and offhand. My colleague and I asked for two days running for an extra blanket for our beds as it was so cold, the rooms were tired and had no nice "extras".
The ladies toilets near reception were grubby with warn and stained seats, at times there was no toilet paper in some cubicles and some of the soap dispensers had no soap during our five day stay. Some flowers and tissues would have looked nice. I suppose it was the nice little touches that were missing!
We found the food in the restaurant was generally OK but were disappointed on our last night by a steak that could have been used to resole my boot. The waitress that evening agreed that it was unacceptable as did the restaurant manager. What we found even more frustrating was the regular forty five/fifty minute wait for any food. This was not because the restaurant was busy as on several evenings it was almost empty!
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, but the views of the "boats"were excellent.
