My wife and I stayed NYE 2008, we had a very good experience. The staff were very polite and helpful, the room was clean, as was the hotel. The hotel is well situated, in a good area 10min on the bus into Southampton centre. The breakfast was excellent and a cooked option was available as well as a good selection of fruit, and for the price that is a lot more than you normally get. I would recommend this as a good hotel for a stop over.

We were staying at the Highfield as part of a wedding party, initially it went very well, staff were pleasant, rooms clean and smart. However there is a bar and restuarant that is part of the complex, at around 12 midnight all the evenings empty bottles are wheeled clanking and cracking round to the back and then dumped in a glass bin. The noise is enough to wake the dead. This happened twice at this early hour, even for the second night after we had complained to reception staff. The answer was "its nothing to do with us", this plainly is not good enough!! We paid for a good nights sleep and had our days ruined with fatigue. The Highfieldis a waste of time if you want to be well rested and looked after.

A very pleasant welcome. The hotel has plenty of parking and is close to bus services for Southampton centre and the Docks. Comfortable accommodation and a good breakfast.

I got a good deal on this hotel when other hotels in Southampton were charging in excess of £100 per night. Even the Ibis was charging ridiculously amounts of money!

The hotel bedrooms were nicely refurbished and were very comfortable. The bathrooms did not live up to the high standard of the bedrooms but were adequate. My shower did not work properly and was not repaired despite asking reception.

All of the staff that I encountered were very friendly. However it was sometimes difficult to get some acknowledgement at the reception desk. The staff sit just inside a doorway and can conveniently ignore anyone standing at reception. This got a bit frustrating.

I would stay at the hotel again as I did like the rooms and the location was good.

We only stayed one night and selected it based on TripAdvisor reviews. Part of the Folio Group, a very stylish and inexpensive hotel. Service was excellent, room comfortable, individual and well appointed. Breakfast was buffet style and included in the room price. Location was on the outskirts of Southampton but in a very good residential area. We would definitely stay in this hotel again or any other in the group.

Stayed in the Highfield for 4 nights,

arrived late at night and was tired, they gave me directions to the room.

the room was very modern and trendy, 26" LCD on the wall all in all very happy.
the only problem was when I was staying there. the heater was on. Making the room very hot and uncomfortable to stay in. Called the reception and I was told that there was nothing that they could of done as it was late.

Even though the heater said off it still was very hot and LOUD,

I didnt fancy sleeping with the window open as I am a light sleeper..

I complained in the morning and was told that in the side of the building I was staying they were having problems with the pipes.

After the 2nd night they changed me into another room apart from that I enjoyed my stay.

I would love to go back and stay if I had the oppertunity, as long as im not in a noisy / sauna of a room
