We stayed in the HHH because I got a very good deal through lastminute.com. We ended up paying £31 for both of us for one night, including breakfast!

The location of the hotel is great for visiting Southampton. The parking is free and the service was good. The room was very nice. Recently decorated and not too small.
We didn't get up for breakfast as we were very tired and jet lagged so I cannot comment on the food in the hotel.

Only two small criticisms - the shower was VERY loud. I would have avoided using it too early in the morning and late at night for the fear of waking people up!! Secondly, the house keeping were along the corridor at 9am hoovering and tidying rooms, which woke us up. Whilst I appreciate this is hardly the crack of dawn, it did prevent us from sleeping through until 11:00, which we very much needed!!

Overall, a very nice 3* hotel!

As this hotel is walking distance from our son's place in Southampton we stayed for the weekend to visit him. All we needed was a bed and breakfast - and that's what we got. The room was small, basic, and averagely comfortable. The bathroom was small but functional with nothing notable. The free "Independent" newspapers were a bonus, although the weekend editions lack all the supplements. The staff (what we saw of them) were friendly and if anything slightly quirky. (For example our bill was both wrong and incomprehensible on paper although what we were charged was correct.) The restaurant next door was very good - comfortable, good food, good service, but not exactly cheap. However hotel guests get 10% off for showing their key card.

There was one big negative to this hotel - the breakfast. It was quite stressful both days. It is pure buffet - completely. Walk in, grab a table, get your food, eat and go. Sounds OK, but in practice it wasn't. The range of food was average and suitable for a three star hotel catering for business folks in the week. At the weekend with a lot of people present they just couldn't keep up. Numerous tables were used and not cleared quickly so finding an unused one was tricky. The coffee was truly awful - self service out of a machine that made a mockery of the word "cappuccino". There was no milk at the cereal station, no fruit in the fruitbowl, and the cooked breakfast was brought in small batches that vanished almost immediately so you were left waiting in a queue for the few overworked staff to bring more. And that was if you could get a plate. Or a cup. However, when you could actually get at it the food was of acceptable quality.

This hotel served it's purpose for us, and we will probably use it again in the future. I wouldn't however choose it as a destination in it's own right. I can't however criticise the value - £54 per night for a double room with breakfast close to a major city centre was about right.

In spite of a bad overnight experience on our last visit, we stayed here again because of its ideal location for our purpose.

We had none of the noise problems that we and others have experienced as we were located in the west wing this time which is away from the noisy restaurant and bar. The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms completely adequate except for the towels - still very skimpy and letting down the general ambiance. The buffet breakfast is generous and fresh. Parking in the free car park can be difficult at times but we always managed to get a place when wanted during our four day stay.

We stayed at the hotel in July for 1 night to attend Southampton University Open Day. The position was perfect enabling us to walk to the Uni and back easily. The staff are absolutly fantastic and cant do enough for you. Two days before our stay I had a car accident and was unable to drive so my husband had to accompany us on the trip. I rang the hotel to see if they could amend out twin room to a triple one. With a bit of room juggling they were able to sort this out with pleasure. We were expecting to at least have to pay for the extra breakfast, but there was no charge. They helped us with directions, providing indepth information and maps for our day ahead. The breakfast was lovely and fresh and relaxing. The rooms were small (there were 3 of us though) but were clean and comfortable. When were asked for extra pillows late at night due to my neck injury, they were happy to oblige. Highfields is a lovley little hotel that I will def use again if my daughter does decide to study at Southampton as it is so close.

The Hotel room we were given was directly above the next door wine bar which had outside tables and very loud music. This meant sleep was not possible until they closed. The fact that the guests upstairs only had to walk across their floor or yawn and for us to hear their every move did not help either!
The room was clean on the surface but did not smell fresh, they need to clean the carpets and uphostery and the place generally needs to be updated.
Despite complaining about the plumbing nothing was done during our stay. The cold water was practically non existant.Looking at other reviews this seems to be an ongoing problem.
Air conditionong would have been a bonus, as it was the rooms are stuffy, too warm and too noisy. Sorry I am not usually so negative about a place but in the case of this hotel I find little to praise.

We stayed here the night before our cruise, the room was clean and comfortable, the staff were very helpful in fact they couldn't do enough for you. The breakfast which was included in the price was buffet style and of good quality. The hotel is situated in an area which within minutes are shops, bars and restaurants to suit all needs. We would not hesitate to use again if in Southampton.

This was our second weekend stay in the past couple of months. We were so pleased the first time that we went back. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, there is a good breakfast but most impressive is the friendly and helpful attitude of all the staff.
