Used the red funnel to cross to iow in a hire car. I was a bit worried about this but no need as it was all very organised so you knew where to go etc. They lined you up then boarded leaving a gap so you could comfortably get out of your car. The lounges were clean and comfortable and to have a bar on a sunny day was a real Bonus!
We returned in Cowes week so it was good standing outside whilst the harbour master fed us through all the yachts! Got some great photos.
This added to our holiday...sad I know ;)

I use red funnel mainly because i have no choice when i want to go to cowes on foot but overall they are cheaper and better than wightlink. The ferries are fairly old now but have been refitted here and there over the years. Its very rare for one to be out of service due to engine problems as happens quite often on wightlink. The staff are better and less grumpy as well. On wightlink i saw a staff member fast asleep on the deck! They are meant to be responsible for safety of passengers and it put me right off them. steam cafe is expensive but pretty decent as far as transport snacks go.

Went on the ferry over the sumer hols. Turned up early they managed to get us on early both ways and it has to be the simplest way to travel. easiest checking in and boarding we've ever done.

Living on the rock, any visits to the mainland always include handing hard earned cash just for the privilege of getting to the land of my birth. European freedom to roam - what's that? Red Funnel though are doing some good deals, so thank you for that! Minus points include the massive queues for food at breakfast time as greedy people purchase artery clogging full English breakfasts and it can seem like time itself is standing still as you chug slowly along but overall Red seem to have the upper hand of the Island duopoly at present with their most excellent offers and friendly helpful staff. My daughter and friend were very pleased to receive a goodie bag too. Big thanks to call centre lady who helped the thick writer of this review who managed to book the ferries the wrong way round.

I just love being on the water and the hour-long trip to the Isle of Wight and back was as enjoyable as our visit. We were disappointed though because we arrived on Sunday afternoon and most of the stores were closed.
