There are several ways to get to the Isle of Wight, but undoubtely Red Funnel ferries is the best option.
An easy on-line booking system is the entrance gate to them.
Then, check-in (we travelled by car inside the ferry) is quick and easy, but I notice that it's just a moment to get to the ferry with the car.
You can travel with the hi-speed boat and your trip will be about 30 minutes (route Southampton - West Cowes - Southampton), not cars allowed. The other one last 50 minutes, you can travel with your car, and the route is Southampton - East Cowes - Southampton.
Once inside, it's possible to stay the 50 minutes trip outside or inside. And inside, it's possible to purchase food, drinks, or coffees. Everything fresh, tasty, and reasonably priced.
Free wifi with good signal.
Helpful staff.
A perfect experience.

Efficient service, somewhere to eat on-board and cheaper that Wightlink at peak times. Slight delays in return service, but being Cowes week this was quite excusable. I enjoyed the slightly longer crossing from Southampton. More to see.

I am from Southampton, and when it comes to travelling to the Isle of Wight there is only one name. Red Funnel. I now live in Portsmouth where the local is Wighlink. For some reason Wightlink seem to charge 40% more for a shorter journey in older, more run down ferries. So naturally the choice is to pay a cheap Red Funnel price and travel for 20 minutes more. We did.

On arrival, the check in system was slick and efficient. Although far cheaper than Wightlink, I was very surprised to be handed two very good quality Red Funnel sports bags with a beach ball, kite and activity book in. We were so surprised to thankful as this was a nice gesture and total shock.

We boarded prompty and left very slightly late. The captain did nothing but apologise for the late departure, but it wasn't nessicary. We were on the refurbished ferries, which was impressive. There was plenty of seating and lots to see and do. My three year old son played on an activity set and enjoyed looking around the boat.

There were plenty of places to get a drink or food, and the food seemed very good quality and for a ferry, very reasonabily priced. Everything on Red Funnel just seems to work well.

The trip was excellent, which takes me back to my first point. When it comes to travelling to the Isle of Wight, there is only one company you need. Red Funnel.

£45 return for a car and 4 passengers, it's a bargain.
