You've all heard of "PS Waverley", that paddle steamer that comes down from Scotland and moors in the docks for a week or so because the weather is too bad to go out and then moves on to the Thames? :-)
Well, the SS Shieldhall is just as good and is available many times a year because she lives in Southampton!
If you like a smooth trip around the Solent with the sights and smells of an old steam ship, then the Shieldhall is for you.

Just loved this very special and unique experience. An old steam ship with just 200 passengers who have full access to all areas of the ship. On a very wet windy day we were worried if she would actually sail, she is large and not very responsive in high winds, but sail we did and while we only had about two hours, what a two hours they were. The three Cunard Queens were in port and we sailed past all three of them. What an experience.
All the crew and supporters of this fine ship are all volunteers and made us all very welcome. You could go up on the bridge and even right down in the bowels of the engine room - boy it was hot down there!
Thoroughly enjoyed and good value for money doing this unique experience, my pasty and beans was outstanding warm up food on a cold, wet but hugely enjoyable day.
Massive congratulations to everybody who has worked so hard to get and keep this fine vessel sailing.
My first love is the Balmoral so I know just how hard it is!

Such a fascinating experience to be able to wander round this old workhorse and see her working so well after more than 60 years. The 2 hr cruise up and down Southampton water, past 4 cruise ships and the Boat show was excellent and the commentary throughout was very informative. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back again next year.

It is fascinating to travel on this old steamship and as we watched four very large cruise ships leave port, emphasises how far things have improved on passengers ships in the last 60 or so years. The staff are friendly, knowledgable and helpful.

Booked for our wedding anniversary. We had a great day and watched as 4 awesome liners sailed past. Staff were great, very friendly and genuinely happy to answer any questions. Great to be able to see all parts of this lovely ship with none of the usual restrictions and signs telling you what you can't do.

What a lovely vessel, experience and privilege to go out on Southampton water. Very friendly crew, lots of places to sit and get great views, drinks and snacks on board and a raffle was in place too! This was my second time on Shieldhall but first time going down the river.

Loved the horn sound exchange with the cruise ships and cargo ships, made your heart flutter. Thank you everyone for keeping this trip and vessel going.

If you haven’t been on board, make sure you put it in as a must do for 2019.

A lovely afternoon out on the Sheildhall to wave bon voyage to a possy of liners leaving on their cruises. Much hooting and whistling and a few beers :-)
More or less full access to the ship - even bridge and engine room.
Wonderful to see such an historic piece of machinery in full working order and doing its job.
The crew couldn't have been more helpful and enthusiastic.
Many thanks for a great trip.

We had the most amazing time. Everyone who worked on the ship were so helpful and friendly. I couldn't say anything bad about the day. Ship is full of history and the volunteers on board were so knowledgeable nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely be going back on another trip next year

Both days were fantastic. Anchored off Bournemouth to get the best of the Airshow. Going in and out of Poole Harbour with the scenery.

Dolphins at the harbour entrance on the way out of Poole towards Southampton. Passing both Old Harry and the Needles in one day. Having a steer of Shieldhall was a great bonus.
