“Runners refuge!”
Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

I run here 3+ times a week and love it!. It's a beautiful place. We also walk our dog daily here.
It's also great for family fun days as there is duck ponds, play park, paddling pool and the hawthorns centre where you can learn about nature or grab a coffee. This is one of my favourite places in Southampton.

“The weather made the day”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

Not a cloud in the sky. The Common was filled with many a visitor, all of which had the same idea. Fun!

I was greatly suprised to not be bombarded with iPod Dj's and the latest hits being blasted out of battery powered speakers. (look at me, I'm getting old)

There were families playing football, Friends relaxing with picnics and further towards the Avenue a large space with everything a child could want. Swings, slides, climbing frames and the obligatory Ice Cream Van.

The majority of the common has not been marred by the placement of snack stands or kiosks and this tactic seems to have brought about the creation of a lovely area for you and your family to go and enjoy good weather.

Picnic blankets and suncream at the ready!

“A massive area, needs some looking after”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

I'm on the common at least 3 times a week working out and it's a huge green space. There are some paths which need lighting adding as there have, over the years been too many attacks on people and whilst you are, unfortunately never going to be able to make somewhere liek this totally safe a decent level of lighting on all the major paths would certainly help. The common is generally well looked after and there is a good range of open space, wooded areas and some water. The old graveyard is a very atmospheric place and has some good biodiversity.

“A rubbish tip”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

Big area for a bit of exercise in the city. Though I see some strange people lurking about I may be one of them. I cycle through there a lot and it is always busy with joggers, people walking their dogs and other cyclists. On a hot day it is full of BBQs and kids paddling in the pool. Despite being used by so many it is reasonably tidy. It has a cafe in the wildlife centre and a very popular pub 'The Cowherds' one corner.

“A regular stopping ppoint”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

Excellent parking, wide open spaces that are exceptionally well maintained by the Park team. Great for picnics, ball games, walking, fishing, the Hawthorne Centre offers tea, coffee and snacks. Paddling pool open after Easter for little ones. Cowherds Pub is on the common great for families and adults groups. Fantastic free fun, very safe during the day, would avoid at night.
