I went here for a quick refresher session before a ski trip - I hadn't been skiing in over 10 years and thought it would be prudent to get a bit of practice in before hitting the slopes in Canada. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the particular instructor (his name escapes me) was clearly very proficient and offered some great advice.

My sister is getting married and wanted to do something different for the hen do. A few of us thought for quite a while and eventually were recommended 'Donutting' and i'm very glad we were!

There was about 16 of us, all of varying ages from 20-50 and it didn't disappoint any of us. From booking the event to the actual day, everything went very smoothly and without a hitch.

The instructers were very good and went over the safety points and explained exactly what we needed to do. Was a great session and an amazing idea for something a bit different on a hen do :)

A shambles.
Children's tubing/ringos birthday party booked several months in advance. Chaotic booking system meant last minute changes. Staff variously indifferent, careless and fun.

The tiny, rutted car park is down a terribly rutted dirt track from the main road. Access to the ski centre is down a winding, uneven stepped path that's barely lit in the dark.

The clothing hut is up some steep, concrete steps. The lighting here didn't work. Getting down them in the dark was an adventure.

The clothing hut was staffed by helpful, speedy folks. They ran out of helmets for the party group. As an adult you "don't need a helmet". Just as well if they've run out.

Then to the slope. Utter chaos.
Staff didn't seem to be working together under the difficult conditions of having two parties booked at the same time.
Children from one party seemed below the minimum age for slope access.
Not enough tubes/ringos for all members of both parties. Getting a tubes/ringo turned into a free-for-all.
Staff seemed to have no system for effectively rotating the tubes/ringos so that all party members got as many goes as possible. If there was a system of work for this it either needs enforcing or rewriting & testing so it works.
We started at the top of the slope. After a couple of children had been down and zoomed into the end stop/barrier at the bottom we moved lower down the slope. OK, you need to see how the conditions are but I was surprised staff had not tested the slope speed before getting 20+ children & adults up to the top of the slope. The staff then seemed to expect the children to get off the button lift at the right level without instructing them.
Despite this the children enjoyed the activity. One younger isntructor made it real fun for the children by sharing his enthusiasm for the activity. With him children went down in doubles & triples which looked great fun. Full marks to him for the one glint of sunshine in this otherwise disappointing experience.

The party hut
There's a neat slope hut for your party food. Bring it yourself. Conditions are basic: wooden hut big enough to easily seat 12+ children. There's a prep area with sink, water boiler, work top and some basic kitchen equipment. There's a noisy heater over the door that warmed the hut up nicely. And there's a stereo that you can play a CD from if you're really tall or can stand on a chair to get to it. Remember to get your CD before you leave.
The next party will be eager to get in but there's a brush for you to tidy up with so they don't have to trample through your crumbs.

Disorganized, poorly equipped yet offering some fun activities. Not recommended.

During a 22 year break from snow skiing i would visit Southampton Ski centre a lot. This one and Christchurch were my two favourite for many years. Great day out and after a fantastic ski holiday in Tignes last week I can only thank Southampton ski centre for allowing me in the UK to keep my ski skills up. I also learnt to snowboard here too. 1997-2001
