If you're looking for a hotel and are happy to be not in the city centre then I can recommend this one as excellent value for money. The rates were good and the rooms excellent for the money. Staff all great and helpful and although the rooms are a "standard" Holiday Inn fit there were spotlessly clean and well equipped. Wifi was complimentary. Buffet breakfast was included and a wide range of foodstuffs were available. Not the best selection of hot breakfast items were available but certainly no reason to complain or not achieve a good breakfast to set one up for the day.
If needed I would definitely stay here again.

Thought we would try this branch of Holiday Inn as we had been disappointed at another one. The contrast was amazing. The reception staff were so helpful and listened to our requests, we really wanted somewhere quiet. We are having to travel and visit our son in the hospital, all very stressful so needed some sleep. This hotel, like the other is full of families due to theme parks which are close by. Evening in the lounge/bar/restaurant was very nice abit more manic at breakfast. The food at dinner was very good with lots of choice, saves going out.

Room Tip: Third floor seemed quieter.

Lovely stay, but I think the area is lacking phone masts.

All very very nice, breakfast was good. Also had food in the restaurant which was very tasty.

Reception staff were very attentive and the hotel was always extremely clean.

Certainly recommend going to the health spa next door, really good experience.

Room Tip: Higher the better! (if you want to have phone signal)

Stayed here for 1 night with teenage son and daughter. Hotel is clean, staff friendly, room comfortable and excellent value for the price. Location is good too, with fast food outlet nearby and restaurants in nearby towns if you do not wish to eat in the hotel. Being next door to a major cricket ground, I imagine it would be be very busy when there's a big game on. Rooms are air conditioned, beds are good and there's plenty of tea and coffee in the room if that's your thing.

Breakfast though, was a disappointing. I have had good breakfasts before at Express by Holiday Inn but this one was poor. OK, in fairness, the restaurant was busy, but the bacon was swimming in grease. sausages looked undercooked and the scambled eggs looked tired. Due to the buffet layout, the queue was long and is was difficult to just get a cup of coffee. They should consider accessible, separate stations for drinks, cereal, hot food etc, as Premierinn do. It didn't help that the hotel was full of parents with young children going to a nearby theme park - not the hotels fault but having very young children running around near hot food and drink is asking for trouble. I probably sound like a right misery but it wasn't the best experience - reminiscent of a cheaper Spanish all-inclusive. It's probably best to eat breakfast as late as possible to avoid this if you stay at a weekend.

Overall, the hotel is fine and good value, just a bit spoilt by some of the guests.

Room Tip: High floor is best, also note that some rooms are a long walk from the lifts if you have moblity iss...

Stay regularly in this hotel for work. The team are friendly, rooms clean and good food - what more do you need? Only had one bad experience when a last minute booking meant I was put in a smoking room. The front of house team were great though and let me view all of the rooms available so I could choose the least smelly!

We needed a hotel as we were visiting family at the University - and although located on the periphery of Southampton, it looked new, fresh and inviting - with ample parking.

Welcoming and friendly staff, in good reception area. (Sadly one of the lifts were out of order - but the stairs to level 3 seemed quicker and were not actually steep - the other lift was working though!).

Modern Room, Great Shower , TV with Freeview and free wifi - selection of teas and coffees and very obliging when we asked for more.

We were not sure whether to eat in or out as we thought being an Express - the food might be "kind of microwaved" - we opted in and how surprised we were - although not an al a carte menu - we had some light bites as a starter - and 2 mains - and were so full, that we had to miss out on desert - great service - order drinks and meals at the bar and then served to your table - reasonable prices.

Again breakfast - we were unsure what to expect from the "hot buffet" - again a great selection - cereals, toasts, yoghurts, bread and cheese, juices, fruit, selection of hot coffees/teas/chocolate etc etc and then bacon, sausage, and scrambled eggs to name but a few - help yourself.

Great tip from staff is to avoid breakfast between 8 and 10 - we got there at 9.30 and the crowds had almost peetered off.

On checkout - pleasant thanks - all the staff were attentive and conversed well.

Must say thanks to the "big tall waiter" who was in on Saturday evening and Sunday morning" - he was taking orders, delivering coffees, serving tables, clearing table and all in the most professional manner.

And to top it off - the price was very good - compared to some other budget/chain hotels this was competitively priced and included breakfast in the cost.

Will we be back again - if we are in Southampton again - then this would be our first choice.

(and if you want to shop - there is one of the biggest retail parks (not shopping malls) about 1/2 a mile away)

This place was well situated for a weekend trip to Marwell Wildlife. We arrived quite late so I cannot comment on other things in the area, but upon arrival it seemed fairly quiet and certainly didn't have any disturbances while in the room.

This is a large hotel with a restaurant and bar... As I mentioned we arrived late so could not sample the food however we did stick around for breakfast (included in the price when we booked through expedia) which was delicious! Not a huge choice, but they had everything you would expect and those bits were very good.

The car park is nice and big and all of the staff we encountered were friendly. The room was clean and the bed very comfy... There really is nothing I can think off during our short stay which was not good!
