Just back from another wonderful meal at the Jolly Sailor, Ashlett Creek, near Fawley, Southampton. What's so good about it? Home cooked food, generous portions, consistently good ingredients and not a microwave in sight.

The pub isn't fancy and neither are the people. Nice hard working people out for a nice quiet evening with good food. That's who you'll find here in this picturesque setting at Ashlett Creek.

I chose the steak and mushroom pie tonight which was accompanied by new potatoes, spring cabbage, carrots and brocolli. It was packed with meat, not a sign of gristle and very, very tasty.

On a winter's evening you'll find a stunning log fire. Take your pooch as they are welcome, too.
Will I be back. You bet...Try them out- you won't be disappointed

Who would believe you were just 10 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Southampton and its suburbs. Tucked away in a beautiful location (if you are careful about which direction you look!) Ashleet Creek and the Jolly Sailor are a pair of little gems matched together.
The food was good, not pretentious or clever, but nice and sound. The beer was well kept. The pub has atmosphere, but we sat outside on the green next to the water with various dogs and children playing and enjoying the place. It's like going back 50 years!
By the nature of our transport we were there at high tide, it might be a bit different when the water is gone...
A real treat, we'll be back again.

We arrived by water and popped in for lunch on a glorious Sunday in October. Sat outside, which is like sitting on the village green, with space for the children and dogs to run around and lovely views over the quay and Southampton Water.

The food was good, honest pub grub which was clearly home cooked and the portions were generous. The service was very good, we were offered a tab although they had never met us before and we were sitting outside. All in all, it was a bit like going back in time! A very enjoyable experience which we will undoubtedly be repeated.

We've lived not far from this pub/restaurant for decades and seen its trial, tribulations (including being closed for a while). Its location is delightful....right on the waterfront....and it's a good starting point for walks, too.

We'd recently heard great things about the menu so gave it a try with friends. All four of us had steaks - three fillets and a rump. They were all cooked exactly as requested and were succulent, tender and tasty. The very reasonable prices also included the chips (or whatever), mushrooms etc at no extra cost.

Decor is as it should be.....still a pub, rather than being 'poshed up'.....and has charm and character. There is another bar at the back with bar games and machines if you like those.

Toilets were not luxurious but were clean and well-equipped.

Any moans? Well my chair was not too comfortable but there were other styles in the room so next time I'd choose a different one.

It was a very agreeable experience and we will be back.
