Description: Gusto Lounge Bar & Bistro is at the heart of Southampton's cultural centre and the gateway to the City. If you are a visitor to the city using the busy central station, the ever popular Mayflower theatre which is home to most of the biggest west end musicals and plays or the newly opened sea city and titanic museum you will find us ideally placed. Our lounge bar is located on the ground floor. This is a casual dining environment. The ‘All Day Menu’ is served here on a walk in only basis; so casually walk in, sit down and then order at the bar. Our Bistro is located on our first floor; here you can enjoy a more formal dining experience. Between 5 – 7 pm, the kitchen prioritises the Bistro due to the proximity of The Mayflower, so particularly if you’re a theatre visitor, this is the place to dine.

“Belissimo!”
Reviewed 21 January 2012

We visited this restaurant as a group of 12 following the Saturday matinee performance of South Pacific at the Mayflower theatre. The restaurant is conveniently located in Commercial Road just a short walk from the theatre. We pre booked and the restaurant was fully booked. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the place has a nice buzz about it but you don't feel as though you are being hurried. Since I last visited the restaurant has been decorated and it has been tastefully done in black and white. We ordered a selection of items from the set menu and everything was good and hot, served with a smile and nothing was too much trouble when we asked for mustard, vinegar and oil - we chose risotto, penne pasta, tagliatelle with salmon, spaghetti bolognese, pizzas (which were huge), steaks nicely cooked and a good piece of rib eye. We also had house red wine, very reasonably priced and puddings which were also lovely, vanilla cheesecake, tiramisu, pannacotta and the chocolate fudge cake was incredible and a giant size portion Two courses cost £15.95 and with wine it worked out at £20 per head which I thought was extremely reasonable. The staff were very nice as we left, two of them came to thank us for our visit and opened the door for us. A good visit and I will definitely go back and am happy to recommend, but make sure you book or you will be disappointed.

“Great food and service”
Reviewed 26 November 2011

Visited Buon Gusto for my birthday and had a fantastic dining experience.

The food was very tasty and service was impecable.

We had our table for the night and were not rushed through our meal, the ambiance was just right.

The perfect venue for an early meal before going to the Mayflower Theatre as well.

“A good restaurant in modern surroundings”
Reviewed 23 November 2011

We have been to this restaurant three times in recent months and it has always been enjoyable. They offer a reasonably wide range of choice in their menu, and the service is good. We prefer the ground floor to the first floor overflow area.

Being very near to the Mayflower it is very convenient if visiting that theatre.

We will be visiting again in the near future.

“Perfect Italian in the centre of Southampton”
Reviewed 13 November 2011

I've been here a few times this year (and plan to go a few times more!) The excellent standard of service and food has never been anything but amazing. It's in a perfect location by the Mayflower theatre and the Bedford place bars of Southampton so you can always move on afterwards for some drinks it you want to.

The waitresses are all really genuine and helpful, they approach you the perfect amount and when they ask if you enjoyed your meal it comes across as sincere not just out of a need to. They also somehow manage to remember you which I think makes my trips there even more enjoyable.

The menu features all of the Italian favourites you would expect. The traditional Italian bread with a selection of pesto is a must for starters, it's big enough for two too share and is delicious - you can really tell the pesto is home-made. Also all of the creamy dishes are still light enough to enjoy properly. The portion sizes are perfect too, lovely hearty Italian food in an amazing setting.

A real plus for me is that none of the tables intrude on each other, there is good space between them so you don't feel like you're sitting on the couple next to you. Even in the week it's usually about 60% full and weekends you definitely have to book.

Southampton is full of chain restaurants so to find this traditional little gem is perfect!
